Run for the WASP.
The WASP Museum invites everyone to come out and celebrate their freedom for Veteran's Day 2010, with a 5K Run and a 1.2 mile walk.
Jerry Riggs was elected to serve on the Roscoe State Bank board of directors on Tuesday.
President of the bank, John Jay, said Riggs has been a long-time customer of the bank and a valued friend of his. In addition, Jay described him as a business supporter of the bank who took care of accounting and bookkeeping for the bank as a CPA until he retired a few years ago.
“Jerry believes in the strategic direction of our bank,” Jay said. “I look forward to working with him and his part in our future successes.”
Prospective Sweetwater firefighters took a physical agility test on Tuesday as part of the overall testing to become a firefighter. Those taking the test were Kenny Slimp, Clinton McKeenan, Kerry Crowe, Vernon Buse, Seth Weston, Kody Dakan, Tyler Wauson, Brad Bailey and Robert Gotcher. Alfredo Bobby Pedro Diaz III, three months, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Rolling Plains Hospital in Sweetwater. He was born on August 15, 2010 in Sweetwater, to Rosalinda Guerrero and Alfredo Bobby Diaz II.
Survivors include his mother Rosalinda Guerrero and father Alfredo Bobby Diaz II, of Sweetwater; maternal grandparents Janie and Pedro P. Mermella; paternal grandparents, Alfred Diaz and Donna Medrano of Midland, Texas; paternal great-grandmother Belen Acosta of Sweetwater.
Paulo M. Lopez, age 79, of Sweetwater, Texas passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Paulo was born Feb. 13, 1931 in Rocksprings, Texas. He married Ysabel Gomez on March 4, 1948 in Sweetwater, Texas. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He worked for U.S. G. for forty years as a production operator before retiring.
HALTOM CITY — Jerry Dee Miller, 69, passed away Monday, Nov. 8, 2010.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Home.
Abbie Maude Whittenburg Thomas was born in Falfurrias, Texas on Dec. 7, 1912. She moved with her family to Sweetwater, Texas. She graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1930.
In a rare, season-opening all-Nolan County matchup between schools from different classi-fications, the larger school used a fast start to come out on top Tuesday.
Sweetwater’s Kinsey Browning hit a 3-pointer just 26 seconds into the game, giving her team a lead it never relinquished, as the 3A Lady Mustangs defeated the 1A Lady Hornets 57-45 at Highland’s gym.
Roscoe High School qualified its girls cross country team for the state meet at Round Rock after a third-place finish Saturday at the Region II-A meet in Arlington. The top three teams and 10 individuals at regionals advance to state.
Jacinda Morales was the top individual for Roscoe, placing 10th with a time of 12:49. Other team members were Amber Craig, 37th (13:43.70); Mirian Solis, 40th (13:47.59); Justina Brasuell, 41th (13:47.59); Katie McIntire, 80th (14:28.93); Crystal Luna, 107th (15:01.58); and Kim Norris, 123rd (15:16.24).
