As more than 40 million Americans and 3.3 million Texans are experiencing Thanksgiving travel, they’ll find falling gasoline prices. According to the AAA Texas Fuel Gauge report, the statewide average in Texas dropped four cents to $2.68 from $2.72 a gallon last week. Nationally the drop was two cents from $2.89 to $2.87.
Texas continues to be well below the national average, this week the difference is 19 cents.
Many local stores saw many customers early this morning for Black Friday sales. Stores were lined with customers and had extra help on the floors and at doors. Above, receipts were checked at a local retailer.
Tanner Crain and Sarah Witt were the two senior winners of $100 scholarship each from Panhandle Plains Management and Servicing Corporation. Their names were drawn on Nov. 11, at the conclusion of the financial aid meeting which was held in the high school library.
A graveside service for Cecil Ray Bills, 83, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. James Baker officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Bills died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
He was born April 1, 1927, in Coahoma, Texas. He married Mary Margaret Looby on Oct. 3, 1967, in Big Spring. He worked for J.W. McCutchens Oil Field Company for 35 years. He lived in Sweetwater most of his life.
Funeral services for Ellen Hoskins, 85, of Sweetwater, will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Keith Clower officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Hoskins died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, in Sweetwater.
Marie Dunlap Richardson, 97, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, in Fort Worth.
Mrs. Richardson was born on May 17, 1913, in Nolan, Texas. She was the eldest of seven children born to Robert Pleas and Mary Effie Dunlap.
She was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Divide High School, attended Abilene Christian College, taught school for one year and retired after 30 years in the credit department at Montgomery Wards. She was a longtime member of the Altamesa Church of Christ.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years; her parents; three brothers; and one sister.
