Smith gets all-state honorable mention

Roscoe’s Caden Smith earned honorable mention as a defensive lineman on the Class 1A all-state high school football team announced Sunday by the Associated Press Sports Editors.
Smith, a 6-3, 250-pound senior for the Plowboys, also earned all-state honorable mention from the APSE as a junior.

Mustangs Honored

A total of six Sweetwater High School football players have earned all-district recogntion from District 5-3A.
B.J. Walker was the only Mustang on the first team. Walker, a 210-pound senior, was named at outside linebacker after recording a team-high 88 tackles. He also made the second team as a running back after rushing for a team-high 650 yards and nine scores. He was also a second all-district running back last year.

James Henry Jenkins

James Harry Jenkins, 86, of Roscoe, Texas passed away on December 12, 2010, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater, Texas.
He was born July 29, 1924 in Bonham, Texas. He married Mable Ward in 1972, in Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Mildred, in 1970, second wife, Mable, on Oct. 28, 2009, a daughter, Betty Jane Gerber and his brothers, David, Paul and Robert.

Margaret G. Landers
Funeral services for Margaret G. Landers, 87, of Sweetwater, will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at McCoy Chapel of Memories, with Rev. Chris Rodriquez officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Landers died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Sweetwater Healthcare Center.

NCF Donates to Brown Bag Program

Members of the Nolan County Foundation Board recently announced the awarding of $1,000 to the Ministerial Alliance Brown Bag program. In making the announcement and presenting agency representative Ward Hayes (right) this assistance, Jerry Riggs (left), President of the NCF, stressed the importance of supporting worthwhile agencies as they serve vital needs for Nolan County residents. Riggs also stated that the NCF will be identifying other special needs and giving additional financial assistance in the near future.
