November 6th
ARLINGTON -- Eloise A. Azios, 92, passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2010.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2021 New York Ave. Interment will follow at Parkdale Cemetery under the direction of Arlington Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in Arlington Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Eloise was born April 14, 1918, in San Angelo to Rafaela and Miguel Armendariz. She was raised in Sweetwater as were her children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Azios.
Realism is the only way for Vicky Wells.
Wells is the County-City Library November Artist of the Month. During the month of November, visitors of the library have the opportunity to not only view her paintings, but to get to know her subjects.
"I have to know what I'm painting," Wells said. "I have had a guy come up to me and tell me that when he looks at my paintings he feels that way."
Wells was able to capture not only the physical appearance, but the inner character in each of her paintings.
"If only people could see what these guys really look like," Wells said.
One local 4-H member from Nolan County was among 30 youth honored during the Texas AgriLife Extension Service's District 7 4-H Gold Star banquet. The annual event was held Nov. 1, in the Cactus Hotel in San Angelo. The honoree was Parker Scott. The Gold Star Award is the highest honor given by AgriLife Extension on the county level. Winners are picked based on their personal development, leadership and achievement in 4-H projects, and on activities and contributions made to the 4-H program.Â
Curiosity may have killed the cat, but for Dorothy Stone it got her a diploma.
After 23 years of wondering, Stone finally decided to request her grades. Within a few days, she not only received her grades; she received a diploma.
"My son had mentioned that I should call them and ask for my grades," Stone said. "I received a response in just a few days."

A graveside service for Otto Byrns (O.B.) Freeman, Jr., 86, of Sweetwater, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Freeman died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab in Sweetwater.

Highland’s junior high football team tries to finish its season today against Hermleigh with a two-game winning streak after picking up its first district victory, 47-13, this past week against Aspermont.
Kevin Box had touchdown runs of 15 and 48 yards and returned an interception 20 yards for another score for Highland (1-1 district, 4-4 overall). Shelby Howard, Tracer Jones, Matthew Leyba and Jeremy Hall also had scoring runs for the Hornets. Howard kicked two extra points and Branson Thomas had an extra point run. Howard was the top rusher with 77 yards on two carries.
Three Nolan County football teams come into Friday’s season finales with hopes of ending on a positive note. But for one of them, a win assures another game next week and a whole new outlook with the start of postseason play.
Thanks to a 33-12 win over Ralls, Roscoe is on the verge of claiming a 13th straight playoff berth as the No. 3 team from District 7-A, Division II. The win improved the Plowboys to 2-2 in district.
It takes a lot to stop a good cause.
The Nolan County United Way Halloween on the Green may have started out rainy, but it didn't end that way.
Teams had their tee-time pushed back a couple of hours, but once they got started nothing was stopping them. There were a total of 16 teams playing for the cause.
The West Central Texas Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is hosting the sixth annual family caregiver conference, Taking Care of You Too! on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Abilene Civic Center. In observance of National Family Caregivers Month*, this conference is designed to provide support, recognition, and encouragement to family caregivers across the 19 county West Central Texas region.
