Last Saturday the Sweetwater High School Band participated in the Buckaneer Band Festival in Breckenridge. Sweetwater was one of only three bands to earn a top rating at the contest. They received â1sâ from all three judges and also won âBest Overall Colorguardâ of the competition. Finally, sophomore clarinetist Chrysten Ivy was named âMost Outstanding Soloistâ of the entire event.
The Sweetwater Rifle and Pistol Club is sponsoring their second Rifle Sight-In Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011. Anyone going deer hunting next month will need to sight-in their rifle and are welcome to attend. SRPC will furnish the sight-in targets and man power to help sight-in firearms. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is $3.20, seven cents less than the average last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.Â
The national average is $3.39, six cents less than last week. The statewide average price is 19 cents less than the national average. The most expensive gasoline average in the state is in El Paso at $3.33. Ft. Worth is reporting the least expensive average in the state at $3.07 for a gallon of regular unleaded. Sweetwaterâs gas is currently $3.38 a gallon.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 47 calls for service, issued two citations and made two arrests on Oct. 5, 2011.
The SPD received 10, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had six calls for service, served one civil paper and made one arrest on Oct. 5, 2011.
Myrtie Bredemeyer Ware, age 87, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at Hendrick Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at Highland Heights United Methodist Church in Sweetwater, Texas with Rev. James Baker and Rev. Chris Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, from 6-7:30 p.m.

The all-important district season finally starts tonight for Sweetwater and Roscoe, while Blackwell and High-land have two more weeks before playing their first of just three district contests.
Sweetwater goes to Wylie for a District 5-3A matchup of teams with 3-3 records.Tonightâs contest will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Wylie.
Sweetwater will be trying to break out of its two-game losing streak, while Wylie ended a two-game skid by beating Lubbock Estacado last week. Sweetwater is also seeking its first district win in nearly two years.
