The Sweetwater High School volleyball team held a ceremony to recognize its players after Tuesday’s match against Wylie that ended the season. ROSCOE — The struggles continue for Roscoe’s Plowboys, who saw their record fall to 0-9 after losing to Rawls, 28-7, on Friday.
Roscoe avoided a shutout on a 2-yard run by Eric Padilla with 1:36 left in the game, but by then the Jackrabbits (4-5, 3-1 district) had things well in hand as they clinched a playoff berth in Dist-rict 7-1A, Division II.
But offense has been a problem all year for the Plowboys, who have scored just 55 points and reached double figures in a game just once.
PAINT ROCK — Blackwell was defeated by Paint Rock, 62-12, in a District 8 Six-Man Division II matchup on Friday.
With the win, Paint Rock improved to 2-0 district (7-2 over-all) while dropping Blackwell’s records to 1-1 district, 1-8 season. The Indians are the district’s only unbeaten team and have clinched a playoff berth, while Blackwell must defeat Panther Creek (1-1) at home this Friday to secure a postseason spot.
No individual information was available at press time for Black-well, which was coming off a forfeit victory over Novice in its district opener last week.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued three citations and made no arrests on Oct. 27, 2011.
The SPD received 32, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served seven civil papers and made one arrest on Oct. 27, 2011.

It’s that time of year again and the Sweetwater Goodfellows are getting ready to help needy Nolan County families have a better Christmas. Sweetwater Goodfellows provides food and toys to families in need with children and food to needy individuals during the Christmas Season. Sign ups will be at the Sweetwater Fire Station, 900 E. Broadway, on Nov. 1, 2 and 3, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. All applicants need to bring last proof of income, approval notice for food stamps, birth certificate for each child, pay stub and approval notice for TANF.
Texas State law only prohibits sex offenders on probation from participating in Halloween activities such as handing out candy or putting up decorations. In addition to State law regulations, all sex offenders on adult probation in Nolan, Fisher and Mitchell Counties are not allowed to participate in any type of Halloween activities.
In different shades of pink, the Third Annual Breast Cancer Survivors Luncheon held on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) brought awareness while celebrating life and victory over the disease.
RPMH Administrator Donna Boatright welcomed the guests for their attendance, followed by an invocation by Gay Nell Cherry. Ms. Boatright also introduced three members of the hospital's dietary staff, who prepared the wonderful meal of three different salads with cookies and sorbet.
John Jay, President and CEO of The Roscoe State Bank, has been elected to serve as Secretary/Treasurer of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT) for 2011-2012. Mr. Jay was chosen for the honor at the 37th Annual IBAT Convention recently held in San Antonio. Being elected to serve in this capacity on the Executive Committee of IBAT, he will begin a four year progression of leadership, which will culminate with John being named Chairman of the Association.
Jesalea Aken Wallace
A celebration of the life of Jesalea Aken Wallace was held Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Cotton Valley.
Jesalea was born July 20, 1921, in Rotan, Fisher County, Texas to Joseph David Aken and Lula Dudney Kendrick Aken. She died Oct. 21, 2011, at Willow Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Arcadia, La.
