Several Gold Star Awards were presented during the SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Board of Trustees meeting on Monday evening, Nov. 21, 2011 at the Administration Building.
The Gold Performance Acknowledgment awards recognize school districts and campuses that have attained high performance indicators. However, the standards have been raised by 5%, making the award harder to come by.
SHS (Sweetwater High School) was given a Gold Star for Commended Performance in Social Studies; SMS (Sweetwater Middle School) also achieved Commended Performance in Social Studies.
Jeff Lay, right, sign technician in the Nolan County maintenance section, is presented a Certificate of Service by Lauren Garduño, P.E. Lay, a 15-year employee with the Texas Department of Transportation, was honored for his longevity during a recent supervisors meeting in Abilene. In addition to the framed certificate, he received a 15-year service pin and an ice chest, his gift of choice. Garduño is the Abilene District Engineer.
Twelve Sweetwater High School football players have earned all-District 5-3A recognition for their outstanding play this past season.
Four were named to the first team — senior utility back Sam Nemir, senior tight end Gabriel Medellin, senior defensive lineman Mateo Gonzales and junior cornerback Nick Nemir, Sam’s younger brother.
