Nolan County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director, Dennis Cumbie announced that 48 additional counties, including Nolan County are accepting Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) applications to restore permanent fences destroyed by wildfires.
"FSA is accepting applications in eligible counties, but there is currently a backlog for ECP funds," said Cumbie. "Producers are still encouraged to submit an application and will be notified as funds become available," he said.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has two dogs available for adoption.
One of the adoptable pets is a black male Labrador (above). Another of the adoptable pets is a white female dalmatian mix (right).
According to Sweetwater's new animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
The Texas Constitutional Amendment Election is now upon us. There are several amendments for the Nov. 8 election seeking voter approval. Those amendments are:
â€˘ Proposition 1 â€śThe constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to provide for an exemption from ad valorem taxation of all or part of the market value of the residence homestead of the surviving spouse of a 100 percent or totally disabled veteran.â€ť
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 144 calls for service, issued 19 citations and made 19 arrests from Nov. 4-6, 2011.
The SPD received 68, 911 calls.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, today will be sunny with a high near 65, breezy, with a south southwest wind 15 to 25 mph becoming west northwest. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.
Tonight is expected to be mostly clear, with a low around 38. Northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
5:05 p.m. Update
Two witnesses in the Aubrey Childers case were heard on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 immediately after jury selection. The state called Rene Williams and Robert Carey, Jr. to the stand. The trial will resume on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at 9 a.m.

Mayor Greg Wortham stopped by Sweetwater Middle School on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 as part of the Speaker's Bureau sponsored by SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise of Economic Development).
The Eighth Grade Career Investigations classes at SMS, taught by Irene Armstrong, learned about ways to approach and prepare for careers from Mr. Wortham. He offered a look at how different events and experiences in his own life â€” as early as middle school â€” helped him and are even used today in his employment.

ARLINGTON â€” Ros-coeâ€™s Jacinda Morales placed sixth among individual regional runners Saturday to qualify for the Class 1A girls state cross country meet.
Moralesâ€™ regional time was 12:37.24. The state meet will be held this Saturday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
