January 12th
The Highland boys and girls won, but both Roscoe teams lost in area district basketball games Tuesday.
Highlandâs teams are both on a roll in District 11-A, Division II.
The boys (2-2 in district) picked up their second straight victory with a 53-48 road win at Westbrook.
The girls (5-1, 14-9) are even hotter, picking up their sixth victory in their last seven games Tuesday with a 67-49 win.
Highlandâs boys were be-hind 15-10 after one quarter but closed to within one, 25-24, at halftime.
Both of Sweetwaterâs sub-varsity boys basket-ball teams won against San Angelo Lake View here Tuesday.
The JV boys (10-8) were 46-39 winners in their game, thanks to a second-half rally after the teams battled to a 20-20 standoff at halftime. Kyle McSherry led the Mus-tangs with 20 points and Cole Maxwell had 14. Ryan Linebaugh scored seven, Willie Norman three and Nick Nemir two.

The first regular meeting in 2011 for the Nolan County Commissioners' Court was held on Monday morning, Jan. 10, at the Nolan County Courthouse.
It has been 15 days since the disappearance of Colorado City girl Hailey Darlene Dunn.
On Dec. 28, 2010 at approximately 2 p.m., 13 year old Hailey Darlene Dunn was reported missing by her mother Billie Jean Dunn. According to this initial report, Hailey was last seen on Dec. 27, 2010 by her mother's boyfriend, Shawn Adkins.
Musician Dana Cooper performed at Java Jax coffee bar on Saturday, Jan. 8. Many people attended to see his performance.
Clifford Lee Rains, 64, of Sweetwater, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at his residence.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home. His body will be cremated following the visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Roberto Martinez, age 58, of Lubbock, Texas, (former resident of Sweetwater) passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.
His body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Pedro P. Lopez, Denny Cardova and Pat Martinez officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Loyd Edwin Levens, 84, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. James Baker and Rev. Keith Clower officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Levens died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab in Sweetwater.
With a 15-10 record and just eight games left, the Sweetwater High School girls basketball team has a good chance for its first above-.500 season in five years. But what the Lady Mustangs would like even more is to reach the state playoffs for the first time since 2005. They can take a step toward that goal by beating Snyder (14-7) in todayâs District 5-3A opener at Mustang Gym.

As the search for Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn leads into its second week, the efforts to find the thirteen-year-old remain strong.
On Friday afternoon, officers continued to search in Hailey's neighborhood. However, the search broadened into the small community of Dunn, Texas on Saturday. Various officers traveled to the town to look for evidence and follow up on reported leads. According to Colorado City city manager Pete Kampfer and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officer Sparky Dean, the city of Dunn could be one of many satellite areas to be set up in the next few days.
