SNYDER — SHS basketball teams enjoyed a big night on Tuesday. But it was the Snyder High School squads who came away with victories as the host Tigers and Lady Tigers teamed up to sweep a District 5-3A doubleheader against Sweetwater.
Snyder’s girls improved to 2-3 in district (16-9 overall) with a 56-40 win, while the boys romped to a 71-33 victory over Sweetwater for their first district win.
For the Lady Mustangs, Tuesday’s defeat was a setback to their playoff hopes.
The Highland girls and Roscoe boys collected key district basketball wins on Tuesday.
The Lady Hornets are now 7-2 in District 11-A, Division II after crushing Ira, 62-27. Callie Sandus-ky’s 24-point effort paced Highland, which was ahead 13-1, 31-5 and 47-15 at the breaks.

Many awards and celebrations were on hand at the regular session meeting of the SISD Board of Trustees on Thursday night, Jan. 20, held at the Administration Building.
Two monetary donations were received from Charlie Peek with Brookshire's and Jackie Alvarez of Coca-Cola. The board approved the donations to be used for the general fund. Another gift given to the school board was a plaque from Steve Ellinger with CADCO. The first three recipients of the Seal of Approval are:
• Texas State Technical College's (Sweetwater, Texas) Associates of Applied Science in Wind Energy & Turbine Technology program.
While it’s true that neither Sweetwater or Snyder has had much success on the basketball court so far in District 5-3A., it’s nearly always interesting when the two schools face each other.
Fans will get a double dose of the rivalry today, as Sweetwater visits Snyder in a 5-3A varsity twinbill that starts with the girls game at 6 p.m. The boys contest is scheduled to tip off at about 7:30 p.m.
Both of Sweetwater’s powerlifting teams had good showings when competing at season-opening meets Thursday at Big Spring.
The Sweetwater girls scored 31 points in placing second to Abilene High out of 13 teams at their meet.
