The Sweetwater Jaycees Rattlesnake Round-Up is approaching fast, and during this event there are many temporary food vendors. A temporary food vendor is a food establishment that operates for a period of no more than 14 consecutive days in conjunction with a single event or celebration. All temporary food vendors should have a copy of their last inspection form visible to customers. The public can help control unpermitted individuals and organizations from selling unsafe food by asking if they are permitted.
In a show of support for U.S. military families, Bealls stores are now selling a patriotic-themed, reusable shopping tote with all proceeds benefitting Operation Homefront, a national organization providing emergency financial assistance and other vital support services to the families of U.S. soldiers. Beginning Feb. 16, customers can purchase the shopping tote at any Bealls store for $5 and 100 percent of the funds are donated to the charity.
Sweetwaterâs historic Municipal Auditorium will host a live Broadway musical on Saturday evening, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. when âGodspellâ takes the stage. âGodspellâ is a production of Abilene High Schoolâs drama department and choir, and is directed by Clay Freeman. Freeman was Sweetwater High Schoolâs drama director in the 1970s and took Sweetwater students to second place in state theater competition in 1973. This is the only tour stop for the Abilene High School show, brought to Sweetwater because of Freemanâs long-time connections to Sweetwater.
On Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 16, 2011, Nolan County Sheriffâs Deputies served two of the 10 sealed indictments handed down by the grand jury on Tuesday. They were assisted by local Texas DPS Troopers.
Deputies went to 114 1/2 Fisher Street in Sweetwater and arrested three subjects.
⢠Jerry Dewitt Washington Jr., age 25 â charged with possession of a controlled substance (Penalty Group 1 â namely cocaine), a State Jail Felony. His bond was set at $5,000.
Nolan Nursing and Rehab residents were moved to their new facility on the east end of Sweetwater by the Texas Department of Transportation office from their Lamar Street location.
The fire that burned in South Fisher County on Monday and Tuesday continued to be monitored on Wednesday and control is expected by Friday evening, according to The State of Texas State Operations Center (SOC). Roby, Rotan, Hamlin, Lake Sweetwater, Nolan, Roscoe Volunteer Fire Departments, Sweetwater, Snyder Fire Departments, Fisher County Road and Bridge Department, Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol and Texas Forest Service responded to the fire. The Blackwell boys bas-ketball team fell to No. 1-ranked Bronte, 59-30, in its season finale Tuesday.
Caleb Jeter had 17 points for the Hornets, who finished 10-19 overall, 3-11 district. Bronte is 27-2, 14-0. Caleb Magness had seven points and Mason Magness had six points.
