One airlifted after wreck

One person was airlifted by helicopter on Wednesday after an 18-wheeler crashed on the East Interchange in Sweetwater. According to Emergency Services Director Grant Madden, there were two people in the truck. The driver of the truck began coughing violently and passed out. The co-driver was belted in the passenger side of the truck and could not reach over to gain control of the truck. According to Madden, when the driver woke up, he over corrected and slid off of the road and wrecked. He was listed in stable condition. The co-driver did not sustain any injuries.

Job Corps offered locally

With summer coming just around the corner, the Job Corps is looking for a few good young men and women to help enter into the workforce.
Job Corps is the nation's oldest and largest residential training program, founded in 1964 under President Lyndon B. Johnson. Funded by the Department of Labor, young adults can receive scholarships that offer training in education and vocations, provide room and board and help develop positive character traits and work ethic to succeed in the workforce at no cost.

Locklar awarded Grand Champion Dorset Ewe

San Antonio – The Junior Breeding Sheep Show was held on Feb. 9, 2010 at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Awarded Grand Champion Dorset Ewe was Larissa Locklar with Sweetwater FFA. As a part of her awards, Locklar received a $10,000 scholarship to a college of her choice from the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. The 15-year-old plans to attend Lubbock Christian University. Currently she is a member of both the volleyball and basketball teams, and a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Lady Hornets play tonight

The Highland girls basketball team will resume its playoff run when it takes on Wink at 6:30 p.m. today in an area contest at Lenorah Grady. Beth Richburg is pictured above bringing the ball up against a defender in Tuesday’s 36-31 win over Robert Lee. The Lady Hornets bring a 20-11 record into today’s game and Wink is 22-3. The winner will face either Bronte or Marathon in the regional quarterfinals next week. (Photo by Alanna Glass)

Stafford, Smith selected for all-star game June 4

Connor Stafford of Sweet-water and Caden Smith of Roscoe have been chosen to participate in the 12th annual Fellowship of Chris-tian Athletes Myrle Great-house All-Star Classic foot-ball game slated for June 4.
The game will be played at Abilene’s Shotwell Sta-dium starting at 7 p.m.
