Parker College of Chiropractic presented Nicholas Todd Anthony the Doctor of Chiropractic degree during its 76th graduating class ceremony held at Irving Bible Church in Irving, Texas on Dec. 11, 2010. Dr. Anthony is the son of Steve and Debbie Anthony and is a native of Roscoe, Texas.
Each year Texans are surprised by tornadoes or severe thunderstorms. It is vitally important to have more than one way to receive NWS warnings. You can receive NWS warnings from devices such as your cell phone, smart phone, PC, radio, television or NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards. Some communities, universities and private companies can text or e-mail NWS warnings to your cell phones or telephones. You could search the internet for these private companies and/or you may contact your university and/or local Emergency Management Office to see if they offer this service in your area.
All Smiles, a group based out of Dallas, was stationed at various Sweetwater schools last week to help bring traveling dental care to Sweetwater ISD students. The company launched their Traveling Miles for Smiles campaign in 2004 in an effort to assist schools, organizations and parents invest in their child's health with on-site dental care. Seeing the great need of a lack in dental care among students, Molly Thomas, SISD Head Nurse stated that the program has been in consideration for some time.
Jimmy Lynn Buckner, 60, of Sweetwater, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab.
His body was cremated and no services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A graveside service for Peggy Lois Runyard, 87, of Lake Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Garden of Memories Cemetery with Mark White officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Runyard died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at The Hoyt House in Sweetwater.
Lavonne H. Terry, 72, of Amarillo died on Friday, February 18, 2011.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Dr. Robby Barrett, Minister of Education, First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at the Palava Cemetery in Palava, Texas with William Mayo officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
The Highland girls basketball team posed with its trophy after winning the area championship Friday by beating Wink 47-41. 2011 Miss Snake Charmer pageant contestants wait for the day's activities at 2011 Media Day held on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at a local hunting lodge. The pageant will be held Thursday, March 10, 2011 and the Sweetwater Jaycees World's Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up will be Friday, March 11-13, 2011.
