The Big Country Medical Reserve Corps, a group of medically trained volunteers who provide medical and public health assistance to the community, has received a $1,000 donation from Tenaska, BCMRC Director Don Ware announced today.
"On behalf of the BCMRC and our sponsor, the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department, I want to thank Tenaska for this generous contribution in support of our work to preserve and enhance the health and safety of our area citizens," he said.

West Texas Rehabâ€™s Hospice of the Big Country will be providing a six-part series called â€śLife After Lossâ€ť for individuals who have lost loved ones in the past two years.Â This is open to the public.Â
The goal is to provide participants with appropriate information and peer support through the grieving process.Â Most people who attend find the information and support tremendously helpful.

Members of the Nolan County Foundation are announcing their annual NCF Golf Scramble for Scholarships set for Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Sweetwater Country Club.
According to Jerry Riggs, President of the NCF, this year's event is being dedicated to the memory of Jere Lawrence, one of the NCF founders. Riggs stated that Jere Lawrence worked tirelessly for many local and area causes, but the NCF was one of great importance to all of Nolan County.
Sweetwater High School DECA students recently competed in district competition and took first place and moved on to the state competition. Adrian Lopez and Gabriel Medellin competed in a team event of sports marketing. Genea Cherry and Joselyn Gonzalez competed in retail. Sarah Romero competed in apparel and accessories. Tish Torrez competed in quick serve restaurant management. The group is shown with DECA sponsor Nina Wilson and SHS principal Stacy Jones.
Sandra Jean Frazier, 72, was born Feb. 18, 1939, in Harlingen, Texas. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 4, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Chapel of Memories at Sweetwater. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery with Rev. J.T. Tucker officiating. Arrangements are made with McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Funeral services for Mable Cordelia Hankins, 90, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories, with Rev. Chris Stephens and Rev. James Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Hankins died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab in Sweetwater.
Funeral services for Luvera R. Ponder, 81, of San Augustine, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel in San Augustine with Alton Shaw officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery in San Augustine under the direction of Wyman Roberts Funeral Home.
Ponder died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, in San Augustine.

The 2011 season is just five games old. However, the Sweetwater varsity baseball team is already halfway to matching its win total for all of 2010.
Sweetwater (4-1) â€” which will be hosting its three-day Wood Bat Classic tournament starting Thursday at Newman Park â€” captured the championship at San Angelo Lake Viewâ€™s tournament before losing at San Angelo Central by a score of 10-4 on Monday.
