SWEETWATER â The Texas AgriLife Extension Service office in Nolan County will conduct a four-part series of small-acreage landowner workshops. The first was held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 11 in the Extension Meeting Room on the third floor of the Nolan County Courthouse in Sweetwater.
Other sessions are scheduled for April 26, May 10 and May 24, said Zachary Wilcox, AgriLife Extension agent in Nolan County.
âThese workshops will each have different subject-matter material, but all are geared to the person with a few acres seeking information on what to do with it,â Wilcox said.
Funeral services for Juanita Marie Dickerson, 82, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011, at Avondale Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Shuttlesworth officiating. Interment will follow at Newman Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Dickerson died Thursday, April 14, 2011, in Abilene.
The three day mission trip "for the glory of God" led Sweetwater resident and Word of God pastor Dale Stowe â along with missionary Larry Goff â through a "glorious trip" that began on April 1, 2011.
Stowe and Goff went into three areas, including the Mexican cities of Nuevo Laredo and Reynosa, where a majority of the work was done.
Recently some of the members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints tied three quilts to send to those in need in Japan. Some of those who participated were Shirley Church, John and Nancy Verschoor, Toby Milani, Christian and Sue Ulbrich, Willie Mae Green, Margaret Bishop and the two missionaries, Elder Durfey and Elder Jacobsen. The quilts will be sent to Salt Lake and then forwarded with other humanitarian supplies from the Church headquarters to Japan.

BROWNWOOD â The Brownwood Lions clinched at least a share of their third straight district baseball championship with Fridayâs 13-6 victory over the Sweewater Mustangs at Morris Southall Field.
The Lions (18-6, 6-0) led 2-1 heading into the third inning, where they erupted for seven runs â including three on a home run by shortstop Levi Perez â off Sweetwater starting pitching Larry Daniel.
Brownwoodâs advantage peaked at 11-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Sweetwater (11-15, 1-5) responded with four runs in the top of the fifth to close the gap to 11-6.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 47 calls for service, issued no citations and made six arrests on April 14, 2011.
The SPD received 26, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had five calls for service, served eight civil papers and made no arrests on April 14, 2011.
