Lady Mustang Golf Team Finishes 2nd, Advance to Regional Tournament

The Lady Mustang golf team qualified for the regional tournament with a 2nd place finish, in Tuesday's third round district tournament.
The girls 1st team shot a total of 386 for a three round of 1,119.
Sweetwater’s Sarah Witt earned all District Honors with an eight place medalist finish, by shooting a 91 for a 270 three round total.
Sweetwater’s other individual scores on the team came from Jodie May 94 for 280 total. Alex Gomez (110 - 301), Katie High (105 - 287), Elise Lawrence (96 - 282).
Sweetwater’s 2nd girls team finished the day with 414 team total for an eighth place finish.

Highland Varsity Boys District Track Results

Highland boys varsity tract team recently competed in their district track meet in Bronte.
The team finished 9th with a total of 22 points.
1600 Relay – Daniel Nelson, Sheldon Hall, Ethan Wilson, Brenden Huckabee, 3:57.17 (5th).
800 Meters – Sheldon Hall, 2:14.59 (3rd)
100 Meters – Ron Covington, (p) 12.95; Kaden Nachlinger, (p) 14.60
400 Meters – Daniel Nelson, (p) 57.47, (f) 56.19 (3rd); Brenden Huckabee (p) 64.12
200 Meters – Sheldon Hall (p) 25.20, (f) 24.68 (4th); Daniel Nelson (p) 26.21, (f) 26.81 (8th); Ethan Wilson (p) 28.76.

Members of the Nolan County Foundations have been stressing the number 101. As reported by Homer Taylor, Executive Director of the NCF, the number represents the number of Nolan County high school graduates who have been awarded $1,000 scholarships to attend any Texas College since the NCF started the Scholarship Golf Classic in 2005.

Burn ban remains in effect

On Monday morning, April 11, the Nolan County Commissioners' Court met for its regular meeting at the Nolan County Courthouse.
At the meeting, a bid was received for approximately 70,000 tons of Grade 3 crushed rock for this summer's seal coating project. Vulcan Materials Company in Abilene offered the only bid to the commissioners which was accepted and approved.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 161 calls for service, issued 13 citations and made 10 arrests from April 8-10, 2011.

The SPD received 66, 911 calls.

Sharon Ford

Sharon Sue Ford, 56, of Sweetwater, died Monday, April 11, 2011, at her residence. Mrs. Ford was cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Ford was born April 20, 1954, in New Orleans, La. She married Glen Ford in Houma, La. Sharon was a Certified Nurse's Aide and was very compassionate about helping and caring for others. She had also worked for Popeye's Chicken in Sweetwater. She had lived in Sweetwater from 2006 until 2008 and Tyler, Texas before. She was a Baptist.

District track starts today at Snyder

Sweetwater High School track athletes will be competing at the District 5-3A meet in Snyder today and Wednesday with the goal of earning a top-three finish, which will qualify them for the Region I-3A meet at Lubbock that is scheduled for May 2-3.
The top three in each event advance to regionals.
Jayci Shelton, who was a state qualifier last year, will be among Sweetwater’s top hopefuls at regionals.
The top three at regionals advance to Austin, where the state meet will be held at the University of Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Mercer earns 3rd regional golf berth
