Ronald Gene Howell
ARLINGTON — Ronald Gene Howell, 79, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in Arlington.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Fielder Road Baptist Church, 2011 S. Fielder Road in Arlington. Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 15, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.

Sweetwater High School UIL district winners qualified for the regional competition and will travel to Texas Tech University on Saturday, April 16, to compete in the regional competition. Shown are Leila Rubio, senior competing in Biology and Science; Mackensey Hayes, sophomore competing in Editorial Writing; and Ryan Mercer, Nate Hardin, Alicia Finn and Shelby Ezzell, all juniors on the Social Studies Team.
Dr. Elaine Weidman is the Artist of the Month for April at the County-City Library. She has lived in Sweetwater for over 13 years with her husband, Rick Weidman who teaches at Sweetwater ISD.
Dr. Weidman and her husband originally met in Albuquerque, NM and say that fell in love at first sight. Six months later they were married, and have been married for over 17 years now. Mr. Weidman, mentioned that Dr. Weidman was a former Ms. Alabama in her younger years. Dr. Weidman retired after 35 years from her profession as an anesthetist. She also has her PhD in Health Care Management.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 34 calls for service, issued two citations and made three arrests on April 13, 2011.
The SPD received 11, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had seven calls for service,
served four civil paper and made two arrests on April 13, 2011.

Funeral services for Juanita M. Dickerson, 82, of Sweetwater, are pending with McCoy Funeral Home.
Dickerson died Thursday, April 14, 2011, in Abilene.

The Lady Mustangs competed Wednesday in Snyder at their district track meet.
Sweetwater finished fourth with 80 points.
A very strong day from senior Jayci Shelton. Shelton, a surprise state qualifier in the 300 hurdles a year ago, took gold in the 100 and 300 hurdles Wednesday and helped the Lady Mustangs to a second-place finish in the mile relay.
“It wasn’t my best, but it was a very good time,” Shelton said of her 300 hurdles race. “It was one of the better times that I’ve ever run, so it was very good for me today. I felt very confident in it.

The Kiwanis Club of Sweetwater opened the latest school board meeting with a check presentation. Annually the club honors local talent with an opportunity to participate in Star Search and the proceeds benefit the A’s R Us program. The Kiwanis Club began and continually support both programs for the local students. Pictured are Kiwanis Club members Bill Haley and Billie Berry representing a check in the amount of $1,500 to SISD School Board President Jeanie McPherson.
Four people entered pleas during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Tuesday, April 12, 2011.
National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is celebrated every year the second full week of April. It is to honor the men and women who work as dispatchers or 9-1-1 operators and the endless hours of service they provide to the residents of our county. This year's week of appreciation began April 11 and will continue until April 17.
