Sweetwater Independent School District has made changes to campus starting and ending times for the coming school year.
â€¢ J.P. Cowen Early Childhood Center will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.
â€¢ Southeast Elementary School, grades Kindergarten and first grade, will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m.
â€¢ East Ridge Elementary School for second and third grade begins at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m.
â€¢Â Sweetwater Intermediate School, for fourth and fifth grade, begins at 8:05 a.m. and ends at 3:40 p.m.
Meek Blood Center hopes that the chance to win a Texas Rangers prize package will increase donor turnout at the blood drives on Thursday, Aug. 4, in Sweetwater. One bloodmobile will be parked at the Nolan County Courthouse and the other will be parked at the Lions Club building on Lamar Street from noon until 6 p.m. Historically, blood collections are lowest in August though blood usage remains steady.
Irene Armstrong was named 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year at Sweetwater Middle School where she is a seventh grade Texas History and SEEK (gifted and talented) teacher. She has taught at Sweetwater ISD for the past 13 years, teaching for a total of 16 years.
Armstrong attended Amarillo Junior College and West Texas A&M University, earning a Bachelor's degree.
The Nolan County Hospital District Board of Directors met for its regular meeting on Tuesday evening, July 26, 2011 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH).
With the new fiscal year approaching, the board reviewed the 2012 Capital Budget, being presented a handout which is broken down by department, in which the purchases are broken down by need as well as price.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 47 calls for service, issued seven citations and made no arrests on July 26, 2011.
The SPD received 22, 911 calls.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 11 calls for service, served two civil papers and made three arrests on July 26, 2011.
