Cancer Services Network will offer a six-week educational support group for those interested in learning to live beyond a diagnosis of cancer. Sessions are set for 5:30-7 p.m. Thursdays beginning Aug. 18, 2011, at the Hinds Square Classroom located at 100 Chestnut, Suite 112. Cancer Services Network is an agency of the Nolan County United Way.
Phyllis Fern Walker, age 75, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2011 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.Â
Her body was cremated.Â A memorial service will be held at a later date.Â Arrangements under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â
Funeral services for Danny Orozco, 36, of Pleasanton and formerly of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Frankie Santiago officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A prayer service and visitation will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Orozco died Sunday, July 24, 2011, in Pleasanton.
He was born Nov. 21, 1974, in Sweetwater. He was a resident of Sweetwater most of his life. He had lived in Pleasanton since November 2010.
Syble Margaret Robertson Hobbs of Maryneal passed from this life on July 23, 2011. Syble was born to Pearl Perry Robertson on June 12, 1919. Her father, Charlie passed from flu and pneumonia in January 1919, five months before Syble was born. Syble and her mother moved to Runnels County shortly after Sybleâs birth. They moved to Blackwell in 1928 and farmed. In August 1932, they moved to Maryneal. Syble went to school in Maryneal until the schoolhouse burned down, then to Highland for a short time. She worked several places taking care of children and keeping house.

Reserved season football tickets to Sweetwater games for the 2011 season are up for renewal to the current option holders through Friday, Aug. 5.
Tickets may be purchased at the Sweetwater ISD administration building, located on 207 Musgrove.
Tickets are $30 for Sweetwaterâs five home games which will be against Vernon on Aug. 26, Mona-hans on Sept. 2, Early (homecoming) on Sept. 16, Big Spring on Oct. 14 and Brownwood on Oct. 28.
Reserved ticket sales for the general public will go on sale on Monday, Aug. 8. The last day to purchase season tickets will be Friday, Aug. 19.
The drawing for the four Rangers tickets and $150 Mastercard to benefit the Wounded Warriors project was held Friday, July 15, 2011 at Texas National Bank. Raffle tickets were sold to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Alliance. Funds from the ticket sales will send a wounded soldier to Eagles Summit Ranch in Junction, TX for both training and tools needed to turn tragedy into triumph. Drawing the winner was Jim Kelley, Chief of Police. The winner of the prize package was Ron Johnston. Ron very generously donated the tickets and Mastercard to the family of local Wounded Warrior Cpl.
Hot temperatures aren't stopping Nolan County United Way from driving for a good cause.Â
The summer golf tournament Drive for United Way has been set for Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Sweetwater Country Club. There will be an 8 a.m. scramble with a shotgun start.Â
âThe funds raised from the tournament will once again go towards supporting our 10 local agencies,â Wendy Smartt, NCUW executive director, said.Â
