Volunteers from Trinity Baptist Church in Sweetwater and First Baptist Church in Stamford came together for the second Blitz Week to remodel the lower floor of the education building at Trinity Baptist Church. Members from both churches are pictured carrying sheet rock and insulation into the building. Walls, carpets and electrical wiring are among the many things being replaced and upgraded at the church.
Six people entered guilty pleas to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Tuesday.
Mercedes Lopez Randolph pled guilty to injury to a disabled individual, a state jail felony. Randolph was sentenced to four years of community supervision. She is also responsible for paying a $1,000 fine, $309 in court costs and $500 in court-appointed attorney's fees. She will also have to serve 120 hours of community service.
Cancer Services Network will offer a six-week educational support group for those interested in learning to live beyond a diagnosis of cancer. Sessions are set for 5:30-7 p.m. Thursdays beginning Aug. 18, 2011, at the Hinds Square Classroom located at 100 Chestnut, Suite 112. Cancer Services Network is an agency of the Nolan County United Way.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 45 calls for service, issued three citations and made no arrests on July 18, 2011.

Girls Scouts from Sweetwater and Roscoe braved the hot weather to spruce up Camp Boothe Oaks for future camping adventures. The workday was a success even though the heat got close to 100 degrees before the girls finished. Girl Scouts and volunteers from the community participated. Lionâ€™s Club members also helped. After clearing roadways of briars and dead trees for wider paths, painting and cleaning out the fire circle, all the volunteers were treated to a lunch with homemade ice cream for dessert. The next workday will be in cooler weather, slated for September or October.

J. Santos Beltran pled true to a motion to revoke probation charge. Beltran was originally on probation for a May 13, 2009 arrest for possession of marijuana in a usable quantity of five pounds or less, but more than four ounces, a state jail felony. Beltran's date of conviction was Aug. 13, 2009. Beltran received 10 months confinement in the State Jail Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, a $500 fine, $370 in court costs and $1,000 in attorney's fees.
ABILENE, Texas â€“ A project to resurface 6.4 miles of SH 70 in Nolan County south of Sweetwater has been postponed.
The work originally was scheduled to begin this week, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the contractor now anticipates a start date next week, said Mary Beth Kilgore, Abilene District public information officer.
TxDOT officials still expect the project to be finished by mid-fall, weather permitting.
Stephens-Martin Paving LP of Abilene will resurface and improve the portion of SH 70 from I-20 to almost two miles south of FM 1809.
Burnt grass is seen all around a wooden post and rain gauge at a local home during the recent Lake Sweetwater fire. The rain gauge was melted. Although Nolan County did see little rain on Saturday, July 16, it was barely measurable. Oak Creek received 0.05 inches of rain, making the total for the year 2.77 inches. Lake Trammell received no rain and it has received 1.00 inch of rain for the year. Lake Sweetwater also received no rain and has received 1.71 inches of rain for the year. The Filter Plant, Wastewater Plant and Booster B received no rain. Well Field P.S.
