A Nolan County Grand Jury indicted 11 people on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011. Three of those indictments were sealed. The following cases were true-billed:
â€˘ Arthur Ray Johns was indicted for continuous family violence, a third degree felony. Court documents state that Johns recklessly caused bodily injury to a family member by pulling her hair on July 24, 2011 and hit the same family member on May 17, 2011. His bond was set at $10,000.
The public is invited to attend when Sweetwater and San Angelo Lake View participate in a football scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 19 at Mustang Bowl. The JV Red and White teams will play at 6 p.m. and the varsity teams take the field at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the scrimmage will be $1 as part of "Our Day To Shine," with all proceeds being donated to the Texas High School Coaches Association's Benevolence Fund.
While the sweltering summer winds down, the Sweetwater Independent School District (SISD) is already preparing for the "New Course - New Direction" of the new school year which is just days away.
Two huge changes have been made that will drastically impact the community: the closing of the HOBBS alternative school and the reorganization of the two elementary schools.
Michael Briggs of Sweetwater generously donated a limited edition print titled â€śThe Texas Brigadeâ€ť to the County-City Library. It is dedicated to those who gave their lives for their state and their nation. Briggsâ€™ goal is to promote history and had a display of his Civil War collection at the library several years ago. Billy Joe Jay of Sweetwater Frame and Gallery donated the glass for the frame.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 42 calls for service, issued 10 citations and made three arrests on Aug. 15, 2011.
The SPD received 17, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 10 calls for service, served four civil papers and made one arrest on Aug. 15, 2011.

Sibyl Louise Walding, 93, passed away, Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Kiker-Seale Chapel. Dr. Jerry Shields will be officiating services.
