Mustang Moms will be holding a Tailgate Party before the football game against Vernon on Friday, Aug. 26, from 5:30-6:20 p.m. During this time, Little Mustangs will be able to pick up their Adopt-a-Mustang t-shirt and picture button. Juice pouches, chips and snacks will be handed out along with t-shirts and buttons. Mustang Moms are asking that the Little Mustangs show up at the track parking lot promptly at 5:30 p.m. as there are 44 t-shirts and buttons to be passed out.
On Monday, Sept. 12, afternoon television in the Big Country will get a lot more local when KTAB launches KTAB 4u. Hosted by KTABâs Alex Hayes, KTAB 4u is a 30-minute locally produced lifestyle program that will focus on womenâs issues.
âI canât tell you how many times local businesses have asked to be interviewed. KTAB 4 will give us an opportunity to interview local businesses which in turn will give them the chance to communicate to the local consumers in a way that has not been done before in the Big Country,â said KTAB General Manager Eric Thomas.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 61 calls for service, issued two citations and made two arrests on Aug. 23, 2011.
The SPD received 22, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 14 calls for service, served 11 civil papers and made four arrests on Aug. 23, 2011.

Nell Merwyn Baugh Kendrick passed from this life on Aug. 16, 2011, to join her husband Alvin Kendrick, parents Jim and Lucy Baugh, and brothers Bob and Sam Baugh.
She is survived by daughters, Karen Sorrells, Ellen Stevenson and Mona Kendrick; grandchildren, Missy Horvath, J.J. Stevenson and Steve Stevenson; six great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
The stakes arenât as high as they were a few years ago when they met regularly in the playoffs, but Fridayâs 7:30 p.m. season opener at Mustang Bowl will still be a big deal to both Sweetwater and Vernon.
The two perennial foot-ball powers have fallen on hard times of late, so a victory will give hope for better things to come this season.
Highland will debut the Jeff Shelton era at 7 p.m. today when the Hornets begin their 2011 football season by taking on the Bryson Cowboys in Trent.
The game kicks off the fourth annual âRumble in the Jungleâ classic that will feature six games over a three-day period. High-land will be considered the home team tonight.
Highland is trying to rebound from a 2-7 sea-son, and a win over Bryson could help spring the Hornets toward a much better year. Shelton was head coach at New Home the past two years before coming to Highland.

Six entered guilty pleas to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2011.
Of those six was Shayqualpa Rene (Shay) Walker who pled guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first degree felony. Walker was indicted in March by Grand Jury for the offense.
The charges stemmed from the January stabbing of Carvin Coy Lemmons.
Sweetwater Police officers responded to a 911 call of an unresponsive male at Apache Bend Apartments on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 shortly before 2 p.m.
The Nolan County Commissioners met for their regular meeting on Monday morning, Aug. 22, 2011 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Two public hearings took place during the meeting â for bid considerations on the oil and gas lease and on the proposed property tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year.
No input was offered for the oil and gas lease bid considerations, which encompasses two separate properties equaling 9.35 acres. As a result, approval was given to seek bids regarding the lease to be advertised in the Sweetwater Reporter for the next three weeks on a weekly basis.
Work continues at First Financial Bank in Sweetwater on the construction of a new motor bank and remodeling of the interior of the bank's main office.
The newly-added motor bank will be located on the corner of Broadway and Elm Street, on the north side of the existing bank building. The additions will consist of six drive-up lanes, a commercial lane and night depository.
Oncor Electric Delivery will be having a public hearing on Wednesday evening, Aug. 24, 2011 about their habitation conservation plan beginning at 5:30 p.m. It will take place at the Sweetwater campus of TSTC (Texas State Technical College West Texas) West Texas.
The plan comes so that the company can complete construction projects in the future, in which permits from the Texas Fish and Wildlife Service must be obtained to protect species that live in the state.
