The Angelo State University Alumni Association will recognize distinguished alumni, honorary alumni and outstanding faculty and staff during its annual Homecoming Dinner on Friday, Oct. 14, in the LeGrand Alumni Visitors Center, 1620 University Ave.
Sweetwater native Adelina Castro Morales is this year's honoree for Distinguished Staff Achievement, selected for her outstanding service and longstanding dedication to Angelo State University. She is the daughter of Joe and Frances Castro of Sweetwater. Morales and her husband, Alfred, have two sons, David and Adrian, both graduates of ASU.
Sweetwater Christian School proudly announces our first “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” winners. This is a program for children to see how very easy and rewarding it is to express kindness, appreciation and love on a daily basis. The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 51 calls for service, issued one citation and made one arrest on Sept. 27, 2011.
The SPD received 28, 911 calls.

Arel Boney Smith, 87, of Sweetwater, Texas passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 at Rolling Plains Hospital in Sweetwater. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories.

Sweetwater doesn’t start district play until next week, but should get an idea of what to expect this Friday when the Mustangs make a second straight trip to Midland to take on perennial private school TAPPS power Midland Christian.
It will also be a chance for coach Craig Slaughter’s team to get some redemption for this past Friday’s heartbreaking 28-26 loss to Midland Greenwood, and be in a much more positive frame of mind when it kicks off district Oct. 7 at Wylie.
Sweetwater High School’s tennis team lost a tri-match against Midland Christian and Andrews on Saturday in Midland. The team is at Snyder today starting at 4 p.m., and travels to San Angelo for a quad match on Saturday.
ANDREWS — After losing its 5-3A opener in Big Spring, Sweetwater’s volleyball team went to Andrews Tuesday for its final non-district match of the season and lost in three games by scores of 20-25, 17-25, 22-25.
