Though he wasnât a one-man team, Rotanâs Bryson Alls certainly did everything he could to help his team beat Ranger here Saturday.
Alls had three intercep-tions, including one with 10 seconds left that thwarted the Bulldogsâ final drive, plus a fumble recovery and also rushed for 84 yards in leading the Yellowhammers to a 26-20 victory in the finale of the seventh annual Sammy Baugh Classic.
Sam Nemir is Sweetwaterâs Football Player of the Week. Nemir, a 5-9, 170-pound senior who starts at fullback and linebacker, was the teamâs leading tackler and rusher this past Friday against Monahans. He had an outstanding defensive game with eight solo tackles, one for a loss, eight assisted tackles and one sack. In addition, he rushed five times for 23 yards.
The Sweetwater High School tennis team went to Big Spring for its first match of the fall season this past Thursday and lost by a score of 13-8.
âWe fell short, but we fought hard to the end,â said SHS coach Shella Arnwine. âI am very happy with how we started.â

It took almost an entire half for the stateâs No. 9-ranked team in Class 3A to make a first down here Friday against an inspired Sweetwater defense.
And the Mustangs were still tied with Monahans 7-7 through three quarters of a classic defensive battle in Game 2 of the seventh an-nual Sammy Baugh Classic.
But the Loboesâ defense ultimately prevailed, holding Sweetwater to just three yards and no first downs in the second half and scoring 10 points in the final period for a hard-earned 17-7 win.
Highland and Blackwellâs six-man football teams lost non-district games Friday to fall to 0-2 this season.
Highland was defeated by Loraine 48-12 and Blackwell lost to Lohn 66-20.
Highland scored on a 56-yard run by Steven Tester in the third quarter and a 40-yard pass from Ron Covington to Tyler Falcon. No Blackwell infor-mation was provided.
Sweetwater lost both of its sub-varsity games at Monahans on Thursday.
The JV White team fell 21-8 and the JV Red team lost by a score of 49-6.
Both teams host Levelland this week starting with the Red team at 5 p.m.

The traffic flow at Southeast Elementary School has been a headache to some these first two weeks of school â a problem for those involved including students, teachers, parents and law enforcement.
"It is our number one objective to provide a safe place for children to receive an education and enjoy their experience while they are here with us," said Southeast principal Peggy Elliott. "We are working hard to improve the traffic situation to make it flow smoothly for the parents as we maintain our number one goal, the safety of our students."
Funeral services for Eula Mae Corley, 99, of Sweetwater, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Jerry Payne officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at the funeral home.
Corley died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, in Kansas City, Mo.
