Funeral services for Betty Jean Nance, 75, of Yuma, Arizona (formerly of Roscoe, Texas) will be held in Yuma, Arizona.
Nance died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 in Yuma, Arizona. She was born Sept. 26, 1935 in Roscoe, Texas. She was married to Ed Nance, Sr. She retired as Cafeteria Manager at School District One and was a member of the Foothills Southern Baptist Church. She graduated from Roscoe, Texas High School in 1954 and took some courses at AWC. She loved tending her flowers, gardening and painting. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Kaleb Hoover is the Football Player of the Week for Sweetwater. Hoover, a 155-pound sophomore wide receiver, had five catches for 57 yards in a 28-26 loss to Midland Greenwood Four of Hooverâs catches were in the fourth quarter, including two first-down receptions on the teamâs final scoring drive that came in the last 43 seconds.

All four Sweetwater Middle School football teams went to Midland Greenwood this past Thursday and two came back with victories.
8th grade White 20, Greenwood 14
Deshawn Williams had touchdown runs of 50, 60 and 35 yards in leading Sweetwater White (2-1) to a win over Greenwood.
Isaiah Gonzales added a two-point conversion pass to Adan Sanchez, and also had a 50-yard TD pass to Matthew Trevino that was called back due to penalty.

Sweetwaterâs White Flag Mustangs won their most recent game 28-0 over Abileneâs Bucs, getting two touchdowns by Tyler Chavez and one each from Ivan McCann and Jadyn Forbes.
In addition, Jayden Perez, Chavez, Forbes and Logan Thompson all had extra points and offensive plays came from John Rine, Angel Delapaz and Cash Barnes. Kyler Holsey, Roman Camacho and Derek Arenivaz were the other team players.
In honor of Darrell Campbell, the former Sweetwater Police officer who was shot in the head in July 2011, while on duty with the Snyder Police Department, the Sweetwater Police Patrol Association and Sweetwater Elks Lodge joined forces to host a benefit for the Campbell Family. The lunch, dinner, auction and dance benefit were held in Sweetwater on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Sweetwater Elks Lodge. A brisket lunch was held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a brisket dinner at 6 p.m. A live auction started at 7 p.m. and a DJ dance followed. Jimmy and Elaine Curtis donated the DJ service.
The Nolan County Commissioners met for a regular meeting on Monday morning, September 26, 2011 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
A public hearing took place regarding the District Clerk's record management archives plan. Patti Neill, who serves in the respective role, briefed the commissioners on the continued collection of a $5 fee which is used to digitize records.
No input was offered; thus the public hearing was closed. Approval was then given for the records management archives plan.
SWEETWATER, Texas â One in six men will develop prostate cancer during their lifetime, making it the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men in the United States. Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) wants to make sure men in Nolan County over the age of 50 talk with their physician about annual prostate screening.
âAlmost all men diagnosed with prostate cancer survive if the disease is caught at an early stage. That is why screenings are so important,â said Dr. Larry McEachern at RPMH. âMany men are unaware that a simple blood test is a common method of screening.â
Two blood drives will take place in Sweetwater on Thursday, September 29 from noon until 6:00 p.m. One bloodmobile will be parked at the Nolan County Courthouse and the other will be parked in front of the Lions Club Building. A total of ninety eight donors participated in the blood drives on August 4. Those who donated blood then will be eligible to donate again on September 29.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 126 calls for service, issued 14 citations and made 11 arrests from Sept. 23-25, 2011.
The SPD received 54, 911 calls.
