Robert E. Davidson, 88, of Mesquite, Texas passed away Sept. 15, 2011. He grew up in Sweetwater and Midland and was a paperboy for the Sweetwater Reporter. He is survived by his brother, Col. B.H. (Dave); sisters, Nell Taggart and Barbara Rammage; and numerous beloved family members and friends.
Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26 2011, at Fairview Cemetery in Midland. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home of Mesquite.
Edith Ruth Logsdon Cain, 88, of Lawrenceburg, KY and Argyle, TX, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at her residence. She was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Desdemona, TX, daughter of the late J.W. (Bill) and Minnie Anna Belle Goates Logsdon.
Edith’s husband of 74 years, Thurmon Cain, preceded her in death on June 18, 2011.Â
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Cain Burdick and husband Bill; a granddaughter, Tracy Foster Braziel and a great-grandson, Dietrick Reed Braziel, all of Lawrenceburg, KY.
Gabriel Medellin has been named the Sweet-water Football Player of the Week. Medellin, is a 6-0, 180-pound senior tight end and linebacker who is also the team’s punter. He caught two passes for 29 yards and punted three times for a 33-yard average in a 19-0 win over Early this past Friday.

All four Sweetwater Middle School teams were winners this past Thursday when they took on Early at Mustang Bowl. Further-more, three of them won by a shutout and the other allowed just one score.
The eighth grade Red won 34-0; the eighth grade White won 20-6; and the seventh grade Red and White teams won 36-0 and 14-0, respectively.
All four Sweetwater teams go to Midland Greenwood this Thursday. The seventh grade plays first at 5 p.m. The next home action will be Oct. 4 when both of the seventh grade teams play host to Wylie.

Sweetwater’s White Flag Mustangs are 2-1 after de-feating Abilene’s Redskins 27-7 this past Saturday.
Jadyn Forbes scored two touchdowns for the Mustangs, while Logan Thompson and Jayden Perez scored one touchdown apiece. Tyler Chavez added two extra points and Thompson one. Angel Delapaz, John Rine and Cash Barnes turned in outstanding defensive plays. Other outstanding performers were Ivan McCann, Kyler Holsey, Derek Arenivaz and Roman Camacho.
Blackwell lost to Robert Lee, 37-25, in junior high action this past Thursday to fall to 1-1 overall.

BEST Robotics Steering Committee Bob Peterson, Keith Plantier, Joni Coons, Beverly Campbell, Terry Blankenship and Austin Mullins accept a Gold Sponsorship donation from the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce. Presenting the check is Jacque McCoy, Executive Vice President of the Chamber. Steering committee members expressed their gratitude to the Chamber for supporting this event and helping to bring the program to the area. The competition season has started - the Kickoff event was held on Saturday, Sept. 10, and there were representatives from 10 local schools.
Four people pled guilty to Judge Glen Harrison during recent 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings.
Kenneth Frank McCann pled guilty to aggravated assault with serious bodily injury, a second degree felony. For his plea, McCann received six years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, probated for six years. He will also have to pay a $3,000 fine, $309 in court costs, $3,177.09 in restitution and $500 in attorney's fees. He will also have to serve 240 hours of community service. The defendant shall also enter a Male Batterers Intervention Program.
The SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) Board of Directors met for their monthly meeting on Monday morning, Sept. 19, 2011 at the Chamber of Commerce.
Outgoing board member of SEED, John Jay, was honored for his nine years of service to the organization. SEED President Kyle Lawrence made the plaque presentation to Mr. Jay, recognizing him for his great service to the community through various meetings locally and abroad.
