Avondale Baptist Church
Greetings from the Avondale Baptist Church family! We would like to invite everyone to come and worship with us. We are located at 1405 Hoyt Street. Our regular Sunday schedule is coffee fellowship at 9:20 a.m., Sunday school Bible study at 9:45 a.m., worship services at 10:50 a.m. and 6 p.m. and choir practice at 7 p.m. On Wednesday evening we have On-Mission Groups for all ages at 7 p.m.

Band launches flamingos

January 20, 2012

This weekend the Sweetwater High School Band will begin its "Flamingo Fundraiser." Yards across Sweetwater will be visited by "Flamingo flocks of band signs." This fundraiser will benefit the band's trip to Dallas, where they will perform in the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, home of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

Three dogs available for adoption

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has three dogs available for adoption.
One of the adoptable pets is a male catahoula mix. Also available are two female mixed breed dogs, one white and one brown. According to Sweetwater's animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 34 calls for service, issued one citation and made three arrests on Jan. 18, 2012.

The SPD received 20, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Family violence assault — 1100 block of Crane.
• Theft — 900 block of Circle Drive.
• Theft — 1300 block of James.

Arrested by SPD:
• Jason Ben Anderton, 18 — Felony warrant.
• Byron Blueford, 23 — City warrant and county warrant.
• Tracy Huddleston, 29 — Duty on striking an unattended vehicle.

Stella Mae (Cleveland) Mash

ROBY — Stella Mae (Cleveland) Mash, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at an Abilene hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Weathesrbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Roby Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.

SW teams make long road trip to Brownwood

The Sweetwater boys and girls basketball teams make their longest road trip in District 5-3A today when they travel to Brownwood.
Both Sweetwater teams are still looking for their first district wins and are a collective 0-5 after losing a twinbill to Big Spring at home on Tuesday.

The freshman girls have compiled an outstanding 14-3 record this year. They play at Brownwood at 7:30 p.m. today.
