TSTC Holiday Nut Mix
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Â· 1 pound mixed nuts
Â· Salt & pepper to taste (omit salt if using salted nuts)
Â· 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Â· 1-2 teaspoons chili powder (adjust amount for heat & intensity; can substitute curry if desired)
Â· 2 tablespoons melted butter
Â· 3 tablespoons finely chopped rosemary
Â· 2 tablespoons brown sugar
Â· 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
Invasive breast cancer strikes 12 percent of American women. As the leading cancer among females, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) is celebrating survivors, remembering loved ones and raising awareness regarding the importance of advance detection at the Breast Cancer Survivors Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 26.
Taking place at the RPMH ER Classroom, the luncheon will feature keynote speaker Charlotte Brooks who will speak on her firsthand experience with breast cancer. Brooks is known locally as a business leader, philanthropist and volunteer.

Sweetwater can take even more pride in one of their home-grown celebrities, as John "Bradshaw" Layfield, a former professional wrestler, is now taking on a new challenge: climbing mountains for kids.
Layfield is involved with and leads a program that is an extension of the Beyond Sports initiative based in London called "Beyond Rugby Bermuda". Bermuda is a long way to go from Sweetwater, but Layfield first became acquainted with the area as a means to break away.
Highland Heights United Methodist Church recently consecrated and delivered a collection of used suitcases, toilet tissue, kleenex, paper towels, paper cups, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, soap and toothbrushes to Gateway Family Services.
Gateway ministers to individuals involved in family violence and sexual assault in a five county area, Scurry, Nolan, Mitchell, Fisher and Kent.
Multiple contracts between the county and Turner Construction--for service as construction manager at risk--for the remediation of the county courthouse faĂ§ade, construction of a new jail, and/or construction of new sheriff's offices was approved at the Nolan County Commissioners' meeting on Monday morning, October 22, 2012.
However, the contracts are strictly dependent on the result of the propositions before the public on the November 6 general election ballot. While presented with the chance to enter executive session on the matter, the commissioners took immediate action.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 36 calls for service, issued two citations and made five arrests on Oct. 22, 2012.

Everett Barnes, born August 28, 1937, in Center, TX, passed away into his heavenly home on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012.
He grew up in Sweetwater and graduated from Texas Tech as an industrial engineer. He married the love of his life, Jacqueline Wicks on March 29, 1970, in Garden Grove, Calif.
Preceded him in death were his father, Chester Barnes; and his mother, Georgia (Jones) Barnes.

Willie Norman is the Football Player of the Week for Sweetwater.
Norman, a senior wide receiver and defensive back, had six catches for 103 yards last week against Midland Greenwood, and also recorded three solo tackles with one assisted tackle on defense.
