Who knew that the idea of "breakfast for supper" would one day prove to be a successful local fundraiser to help area programs and children?
Apparently, the Sweetwater Kiwanis Club did.

The local civic group is once again gearing up for their annual Pancake Supper on Friday night, November 2, 2012 at the Sweetwater High School cafeteria. The fundraiser will be held before the final home game--Senior Night, when the Sweetwater Mustangs take on the Monahans Loboes at the Mustang Bowl.
The Highland fifth grade class surprised members of the Highland PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) with a cookie party Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 23, 2012, in the school cafeteria. Fifth grade student Jigar Patel came up with the idea for students to show their appreciation to the PTO for all they do for them. With some guidance from the principal, he and his classmates organized the party where all of the elementary students were invited. Jigar read a speech expressing his appreciation while other fifth grade students gave reasons why they were thankful for the PTO.
The Boosting Engineering Science and Technology (BEST) Robotics competition took place Saturday, Oct. 20, at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater. This year’s theme was Outer Space, which sparked tons of creative robots. A record 13 area schools participated in the Big Country BEST Competition hosted by Texas State Technical College West Texas this year. Winners of the Oct. 20, competition will move on to regionals.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 29 calls for service, issued one citation and made three arrests on Oct. 25, 2012.
The SPD received 13, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had four calls for service, served two civil papers and made one arrest on Oct. 25, 2012.
How about a plane ride in a World War II bi-plane or a cruise to a destination of your choice? Those are just two of the items up for bid at the REHAB Shrimp Peel and Auction Tuesday night, Oct. 30, 2012, at the Sweetwater Country Club. The dinner and auction begins at 6 p.m. and is the first of two Round-Up for Rehab events this week to benefit the West Texas Rehabilitation Center. The second event is at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31, and is the regular Round-Up for Rehab at Sweetwater Cattle Auction. A free chuck wagon lunch will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m.
On Tuesday evening, Oct. 23, 2012, around 7:30 p.m. a chase ensued when the Sweetwater Police Department attempted to stop a truck after the driver failed to yield at a yield sign, according to Sweetwater Chief of Police Brian Frieda. The driver began to travel west on an Interstate 20 access road and got onto the Interstate. The driver then attempted to exit on Blackland Road at a high rate of speed and went airborne through the median, rolling and flipping the vehicle several times before it came to a rest on the west bound access road.

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has one dog available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a female terrier mix. According to Sweetwater’s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
ARLINGTON — Neva Madglene Frasier, 88, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Sweetwater Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday at Arlington Funeral Home.
Neva was preceded in death by two husbands, Marvin L. Thompson and Richard H. Frasier.
