A Memory Mass for Armando Montemayor will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Charles Okonkwo officiating.
Montemayor passed away on Sept. 2, 2012, in Jacksonville, Ark.
Lone Star, ACA (Lone Star Ag Credit) appreciates the communities they live and work in and wanted to find a way to give back to those communities that would represent Agriculture. In the month of October, Lone Star will hold a canned food drive at all of their branch locations, but with a competitive twist. Each branch is in the running to also receive a $100 check to go towards their pantry of choice if they collect the most food.
The Sweetwater office will be collecting for Goodfellows. All donations can be made at Lone Star Ag Credit, 400 East 3rd Street in Sweetwater by Oct. 31.
On Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, Trinity Baptist Church is celebrating the realization of a 50-year prayer and vision.Â â€śSince the beginning of the church, Trinity has had a vision of growth,â€ś says Senior Pastor Ward Hayes.Â â€śThe original church was constructed with a planned addition.Â And while the plans were modified over time, the vision to grow and serve the community of Sweetwater has remained steadfast.â€ť
â€˘ RPMH continues initiative for the second year in a row to support American Cancer Society
For the second year in a row, the lawn outside Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) is sporting pink stakes as part of an initiative to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
Two patients were transported from a wreck on Lamar and Arkansas Street on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012. The Mustang, going west on Arkansas, struck the truck that was going north on Lamar Street, according to authorities. Both patients were in stable condition.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 63 calls for service, issued eight citations and made two arrests on Oct. 18, 2012.
The SPD received 23, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 10 calls for service, served one civil paper and made one arrest on Oct. 18, 2012.

Representative Susan L. KingÂ will host a forum to address the legislative concerns of her constituents at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at 119 East Third Street on the second floor mezzanine in Sweetwater.
Representative King will open the forum with a short presentation on looking towards the 83rd Legislative Session and then facilitate an open discussion with opportunities for questions and answers.
The office of Representative King welcomes and encourages all constituents of District 71 who are interested in legislative affairs to attend the event.Â
The Boosting Engineering Science and Technology (BEST) Robotics competition will take place on Saturday, Oct. 20. A record number of area teams will competition on in The Center at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater. BEST works to inspire students to pursue careers in engineering, science, technology and math through participation in a sports-like science- and engineering-based robotics competition. This yearâ€™s theme is Outer Space, which is sure to spark tons of creative robots.
Sweetwater High School Varsity volleyball players gathered at the Sweetwater High School Library this week to hand out "Read" posters to promote reading and academics to each SISD campus and the County-City Library. The posters were given to each school and the County-City Library.
