Graveside services for Curtis William â€śBubbaâ€ť Stone, 77, of Winters, formerly of Sweetwater, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Roscoe Cemetery. Rev. Werth Mayes will officiate. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, from noon to 2 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Stone died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 in Stephenville.
Louis M. Steen, age 84, of Sweetwater, Texas passed away on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at Hendrick Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at Fourth and Elm Church of Christ with Mike Crowley officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Jessie Joe â€śQuecoâ€ť Costillo will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Father Charles Okonkwo will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be said by Lupe Medellin at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Costillo died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, in Sweetwater.
The Bitty Bop Harvest Bash benefitting Cornerstone Christian Preschool took place on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at the 4th and Elm Church of Christ parking lot. There was a hot dog supper, pumpkin painting, an apple toss, leaf printing, fall photos, a football toss, digging for treasure, a petting zoo, fall tattoos and many more activities for children. Philanthropist, volunteer extraordinaire, educator, leader, mother and grandmother, Marilyn Joan MacKenzie Threlkeld died on Sept. 21, 2012, her 83rd birthday, from complications during surgery.
A memorial open house will be held at First Baptist Church, 213 East 3rd Street in Sweetwater on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, from 2-5 p.m. There will be no interment; in her usual selfless and loving manner, Marilyn donated her remains to the Genesis Medical Education and Research Institute.
Mr. Rodney Gaither Mayo of Hermleigh, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo, Texas after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Mayo was born on Â Nov. 11, 1945, in Roscoe and lived in Hermleigh most of his life with his mother and father Mary Neal and Gaither, his son Darrell, his wife Linda, his daughter-in-law Stacy, and his grandson Nathan.Â

On Tuesday morning, Oct. 2, the Nolan County Sheriffâ€™s Office added two more members to its roster. However, these two men wonâ€™t get paid a salary for their efforts. Stephen Smith II and Chad Mitchell were sworn in as reserve deputies for the Nolan County Sheriffâ€™s Office.

This month, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) wants to shine light on the importance of early detection by hosting a Lunch and Learn Seminar on Wednesday, Oct. 10, that focuses on early cancer detection by educating attendees on risks and screening schedules.

Texas State Technical College will host a team challenge cook-off on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012.
The cook-off is open to all TSTC West Texas students and employees. Team members must consist of three students and one employee.
Cooking begins at noon and judging begins at 5 p.m.
The competition will be held at TSTC Lake Lot. There will be prizes for Best Dish, Best Camp, Showmanship and Best Overall. A Market Mystery Food Box will be provided to each team. Teams can provide their own grill or cooking equipment. TSTC will have a limited supply.
