Marble Falls â Betty Joyce Parker, formerly of Trent, died Sunday, Dec. 9, at her home in Marble Falls. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, at the Trent First Baptist Church with Reverend Ronnie Freeman officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Sweetwater High School will honor its 2012 fall sports athletes with a banquet Thursday, Jan. 10 starting at 6 p.m. at the Nolan County Coliseum annex.
Athletes in football, cross country and volleyball will be recognized for their hard work and dedication. Also, Sweetwaterâs cheerleaders and trainers will be intro-duced and thanked for their support. A highlight video will be shown. The Mustang Booster Club will also have a silent auction to support the athletes. Tickets are $12 and available until Monday, Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. at the high school fieldhouse, and will not be sold at the door.
The Highland and Roscoe girls were the only win-ners among the six Nolan County high school basket-ball teams on Tuesday.
The Lady Hornets are now 13-3 after defeating Guthrie 50-30, while Roscoe (9-5) beat TLCA 55-21.
Sierra Allen led Highland with 17 points while Han-nah Allen also reached double figures with 13 points. Sydny Helbert and Schyler Kimbrell each contributed six points while Madison Moseley and Beth Richburg had four.
Roscoe held a 20-0 lead over San Angelo-based TLCA after the first quarter of play, and continued its dominance over the last three periods as well.

(Abilene) â On Friday evening, 166 graduates will walk across the stage, most already placed in the Texas workforce, supporting our local and state economies.Â
The ceremony will take place on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Abilene Civic Center at 7:00 p.m.
166 Total graduates, 96 graduating with Associates of Applied Science Degrees, 70 graduating with Certificate of Completion, 28 Marketable Skills Achievement Awards (Dual Credit Students from Breckenridge and Roscoe High Schools)

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has three dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a female mixed breed dog, a male terrier mix and a male mixed breed dog. According to Sweetwaterâs animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 33 calls for service, issued one citation and made five arrests on Dec. 10, 2012.
The SPD received 15, 911 calls.

Nello Ruth Collier, 92, of Odessa passed away Monday at Parks Methodist Retirement Home. She was born October 1, 1920 in Foss, Oklahoma to Carl and Mattie Morgan Thorp. She united in marriage to the love of her life, David Clayton Collier, on September 7, 1940 in Loraine Texas and was reunited with him December 9, 2012. She was a Christian woman who loved the Lord Dearly and a loving homemaker, who enjoyed cooking and having all her Grandchildren at her side. Motherâs hobbies were crochet, gardening, and traveling, looking for windmills and bluebonnets.
