On Saturday evening, Dec. 22, a line of cars were parked on the 900 block of Silas Street to greet Santa and Mrs. Claus. The two, played by Ted and Peggy Kimbrell, gave out cupcakes and punch to children who came to visit their lighted home. Shown visiting Santa are Mitzi Kirby with her sons, James and Hayden. âThis is our gift to the community and to God to celebrate Jesusâ birthday,â said Mrs. Kimbrell.
Christmas came early to the two bicycle drawing winners at Sweetwater Christian School. Kaegan Gomez and Mason Blueford were the winners of the Christmas drawing. The bicycles were donated by the Sweetwater Wal-Mart.
A local church youth group is offering middle school and high school students a new opportunity to ring in the New Year in a safe and fun setting.
The Salvage Yard is the sixth through twelfth grade student ministry at Emmanuel Fellowship Church in Sweetwater. The group will be sponsoring the "AllThingsNew - New Year's Eve Bash" on Monday, December 31 at the church, located at 1418 Hailey.
Doors to the event will open at 8 p.m. and there will be a $10 entry fee with food and drinks available. Each person will also be entered for chances to win door prizes, including $100 in cash.

Ask anyone this question and you will probably get a different answer each time. But the timeless holiday movie shares what we hope Christmas to be, what it has become and what it really is about.
Jack Straub, 95, of De Leon, Texas passed away on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at De Leon Nursing and Rehab. Jack was born on Nov. 23, 1917, in Salisbury, Missouri to Elmer Harrison Straub and Estelle Camille Jackson. He married Evelyn Straub on May 23, 1980.
Sweetwater Intermediate School fifth grade students, Hailey Orozco, Bailey Sager and Samantha Bugarin were doing their part to help the Sweetwater community. They passed United Way buckets around the school collecting money for the charity. Not pictured is Bailey Sager.

A district snapshot was recently conducted within Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District), in which the recently-received results were presented at the December meeting of the SISD Board of Trustees.
Along with this first matter, two other reports were presented during the meeting, in which all three required no action from the board. The district snapshot took place to comply with the state's AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) results.
The 31st annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive will soon be complete, and Brookshireâs and Super 1 Foods stores and partnering service groups and food pantries expect to provide a little more than 19,000 boxes of food for families in need throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.
Volunteers have packed food in boxes provided by the grocery company and all will complete the distribution of those before Christmas, along with 19,000-plus coupons for a free roasting henâalso provided by BGC.
Max Sturdivant of Waco, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012.
Services were at 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, at Sparks Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Wimberley and Rev. Delbert Taylor officiating. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Bellmead Funeral Home.
