Hoyt House in Sweetwater is welcoming a new member to their staff. Helen Marshall is serving the local assisted living center as the Residence Sales Manager.
Marshall's journey to this new role began three months ago when she was contacted by the regional director of Assisted Living Concepts (ALC), Joshua Lindsey. As a result of her skills and educational background, she joined the Hoyt House team in October.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 35 calls for service, issued three citations and made three arrests on Dec. 20, 2012.
The SPD received 18, 911 calls.

A Nolan County Grand Jury indicted 11 people this week. Two of those indictments were sealed. The following cases were true-billed:
Kenneth Ray Acorn, Jr. was indicted for possession of a controlled substance, namely cocaine, a second degree felony. Court documents state that Acorn knowingly possessed more than four grams, but less than 200 grams of the controlled substance on May 22, 2012. His bond was set at $15,000.
During the Cline Shale Session held in Sweetwater on Dec. 14, some individual responses were given along with news updates on the buzz over the upcoming oil exploration and development opportunity.
One representative noted that cities "will not believe" the magnitude of the incoming industry. An increase in traffic with people, transportation--notably trucks and restaurants would be evident.
This year's campaign for the Nolan County United Way (NCUW) is "Give Where You Live," so that the local organization can continue their commitment to local service. The 2012 goal has been set at $85,000, in which all funds raised will stay in the county to help nine local agencies.
Making up the agencies are the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, SNAP (Senior Nutrition Activities Program), Cancer Services Network, Gateway Family Services, Sweetwater BackPack Buddies, the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center (WTCAC), the Big Country Medical Reserve Corps, and the Women's Resource Center.

BROADWAY BAPTIST CHURCH
Here it is, Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, the day the world is supposed to end. I am guessing that if you are reading this, it really didnât happen. A friend of mine said, as we were talking about our plans in 2013, âIt wonât matter because, according to the Mayans we wonât be here.â I replied, âIâm not worried about it, because Iâm not âMayan, Iâm Hisân!â And I pointed toward heaven.
The Sweetwater Municipal Band hosted their annual Christmas concert on Thursday evening, Dec. 20, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium, featuring the Sweetwater Performing Arts Center, Larissa Place and Rebekah Chrismer.
The band performed many holiday favorites, along with vocalists on several songs, as well as dancers on several songs. Shown is the band performing.
Trinity Baptist Church in Sweetwater has been seeing a new face on the campus of their church, as Emmanuel Jimenez was recently hired at the start of November as the church's new youth pastor.
Jimenez grew up in Bangs, Texas and is the youngest of four children. While his goal is to bring seventh through twelfth graders to grow up knowing Christ, his upbringing was on the opposite end of the spectrum.
The Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development, or SEED, hosted the recent Cline Shale Session--which allows community leaders from several cities to hold a roundtable discussion on the oil exploration and development--on Friday, Dec. 14, at the local TSTC (Texas State Technical College) campus.
Ken Becker, the executive director of SEED, served as the session host. Also representing SEED were board members Bill Johnson, Billy Whisenant and Dr. Jerod Peek.
