Funeral services for Robert Callan Gabel, 80, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Rev. Chris Stephens will officiate and interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Gabel died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, in Coleman, Texas.
The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at Schlotzsky's Deli, located at 204 S.E. Georgia Ave.
Schlotzsky's Deli is owned and operated by Steve and Laurie Holcomb, with Cathy Peace as manager and Ronnie Young as assistant manager, along with 20 employees.
Schlotzsky's Deli offers a variety of products, including Cinnabon cinnamon rolls, breakfast sandwiches and burritos, sandwiches on fresh baked bread, pizzas, salads and soups.

A local church youth group is offering middle school and high school students a new opportunity to ring in the New Year in a safe and fun setting.
The Salvage Yard is the sixth through twelfth grade student ministry at Emmanuel Fellowship Church in Sweetwater. The group will be sponsoring the "AllThingsNew - New Year's Eve Bash" on Monday, December 31 at the church, located at 1418 Hailey.
Doors to the event will open at 8 p.m. and there will be a $10 entry fee with food and drinks available. Each person will also be entered for chances to win door prizes, including $100 in cash.
Several times a year, members of the Sweetwater Police Department and the Nolan County Sheriff's Office participate in active shooter training while Sweetwater students are on vacation. Each year, the training takes place at a different school and officers train in tactical exercises on active shooter response.

Kaleb Hoover scored 16 points, Rhett Torres 13 and Dylan Bennett 11 as Sweet-water won the championship of Ansonâ€™s tournament by defeating Merkel 61-53 on Saturday.
Sweetwater (9-7) finished 4-0 at the tournament and has won its last five games overall. The Mustangs, who host Coahoma on Thursday, placed both Hoover and Bennett on the all-tournament team while avenging a 13-point loss to Merkel in early December.

Twenty-seven years after helping Sweetwater High School win a Class 4A football state championship in 1985 as a player, Goodman â€” now an assistant coach at Navasota â€” was part of another state title celebration on Dec. 21 when the Rattlers defeated Gilmer, 39-3, at Arlingtonâ€™s Cowboys Stadium to win the Class 3A Division II championship.
SLATON â€” The Sweetwater girls basketball team picked up pool-play wins over Tahoka and Petersburg on the first two days of action before suffering their first loss Friday when they fell to host Slaton, 49-32, at the West Texas Invitational Tournament.
On Thursday, Sweetwater (14-8) opened play by defeating Tahoka 52-30.
