On Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, just before 2 p.m. there were two wrecks near the 255 mile marker close to the Adrian Road bridge. One car lost control, crossed the center barrier and was hit multiple times by oncoming traffic including an 18-wheeler in the west bound lanes.Â On the east bound side, a car swerved to miss debris and rolled over.Â There were a number of cars involved on that side as well.Â
A woman's back windshield was hit by a stray bullet on Friday evening, Feb. 17, 2012, in the Cato parking lot in Sweetwater.
According to Lt. Randy Hanes with the Sweetwater Police Department, police received a call regarding shots fired in the parking lot. Two officers were in the area near the Hampton Inn in Sweetwater and heard the shots. According to Hanes, the officers heard the multiple shots coming from the southeast, behind the Hampton Inn. It is believed that the shots were simply stray bullets from shots fired by someone hunting or discharging their firearm.
The third round of Texas Alumni Football for the area will be here in April, but this time, it will make dreams come true for many Roscoe and Sweetwater alumni.
Former high school players from Roscoe and Sweetwater have teamed up to form a team and live out this dream. The dream? Playing a game of football at Cowboys Stadium.
The games are open to all alumni of the Roscoe/Sweetwater area and the ages of the players will likely range from nineteen to mid-forties. The alumni team will play another alumni team from Commerce, a 3A school, northeast of Dallas.
Big Boys Barbecue catered an Open House event for Sweetwater Auto-Tireâ€™s new location at 700 E. Broadway from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012. A ribbon cutting was held prior to the Open House with Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors present to congratulate the business on their new location. At the event were owners, Bill and Candy Jones, manager Manny Gutierrez, assistant manager Tommy Warner, clerk Irene Mendoza and Brittainy Minton.
Robert Allin Harrison, 79, of Sweetwater and Houston, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012. With his passing, we lost a man of honor and compassion for all; a stalwart supporter of the values derived from team sports and athleticism, and a loving father.
Funeral services for Carolyn Sue Hale, 61, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Brad Helbert and Rev. Terry White officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Hale died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 in Lubbock, Texas.
Trent â€” Dwayne Watson, 79, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, in a local hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, at the Trent First Baptist Church with Reverend Ronnie Freeman officiating. Burial will be in the Newman Cemetery in Fisher County, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home. Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
A total of five seniors from Nolan County high schools have been chosen for Fellowship of Christian Athletes games that will be played June 2 in Abilene.
Taylor Jones and Sam Nemir of Sweetwater and Corey Hatcher of Roscoe will play for the North team at the FCA Myrle Greathouse All-Star Classic football game that kicks off at 7 p.m. June 2 at Shotwell Stadium.
Roscoeâ€™s Jacinda Mora-les, meanwhile, has been chosen to play for the North team at the FCA girls basketball game that tips off at noon June 2 at ACUâ€™s Moody Coliseum.
