The annual Go Red for Women luncheon will be held on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 at the Sweetwater TSTC (Texas State Technical College) campus.
Tickets for the luncheon are $10 per person. Businesses can sponsor a table for $80, which will include six tickets and promotional benefits with the business's logo at the table.

Sam Nemir (seated at table), a senior at Sweetwater High School, has committed to play college football at Hardin-Simmons University. A ceremony was held to announce Nemir’s decision Wednesday morning at the high school library. Among those who attended were members of Nemir’s family. They included brothers Nick (far left) and Max as well as mother Marina and father Gordon. Nick, a junior, and Sam played together on the 2011 varsity football team at SHS with both winning all-district and all-Big Country recognition.
Sweetwater's district for the next two years will be slightly bigger and not necessarily any easier.
The University Interscholastic League announced its realignment today, and Sweetwater's new district (4-3A) will still include Wylie, Big Spring and Snyder from the current five-team District 5-3A, plus newcomers Monahans and Midland Greenwood to make a six-team district. Brownwood, which is the other school currently in District 5-3A, moves to District 8-3A to face a whole new set of opponents, none of them located near Sweetwater or Abilene.
Texas National Bank hosted this month’s Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce coffee event. Employees and Chamber members mingled over coffee and treats on Wednesday morning, Feb. 1, 2012.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 49 calls for service, issued two citation and made one arrest on Jan. 31, 2012.
The SPD received 55, 911 calls.

• Disorderly conduct — 300 block of Lamar.
• Theft — 200 block of E .Fourth.
• Theft — 200 block of W. Alabama.
Arrested by SPD:
• Female juvenile, 10 — False report to peace officer.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had eight calls for service, served two civil papers and made no arrests on Jan. 31, 2012.

Golf
The Sweetwater boys had a second-place team finish Saturday when it competed at a powerlifting meet held at Abilene High School.
Roscoe and Highland suffered losses in area boys high school basketball action Tuesday. Roscoe lost to Rotan, 50-42, in its game as the Plowboys fell to 1-6 in District 9-A, Division I, while Highland fell to Trent 46-45 in the teams’ District 11-A, Division II contest.
Ron Covington scored 23 points for Highland, but no other player was able to reach double figures as the Hornets fell to 5-19 overall and 2-7 in district.
