The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 43 calls for service, issued seven citations and made zero arrests on Feb. 20, 2012.
The SPD received 14, 911 calls.
Calls for service:
• Information — 800 block of Hill.
• Information — Sweetwater area.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 36 calls for service, served one civil paper and made four arrests from Feb. 17-20, 2012.
Arrested by NCSO:
• Maurice Earl Oler, 42, of Abilene — Warrant/theft by check.
• Jimmy Gene Willett, 19, of Snyder — Bench warrant.

Rev. Ken Northcutt was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at his home in Sweetwater. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Avondale Baptist Church in Sweetwater with Rev. Terry White officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Richland Springs Cemetery in Richland Springs, Texas under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Family visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 from 6-7:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Wesley Barnes, Robert Bowen, T.L. Dickerson, R.D.
Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Rita Torres Abrigo Gonzales, 99, of Sweetwater, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Charles Okonkwa officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, at McCoy Chapel of Memories read by Mary Ann and Joe Palafox.
Gonzales died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Steven James Mueller, 55, of Ballinger went to meet his heavenly father Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012. His final days were spent surrounded by family.
Steve was born March 23, 1956 to James and Rose (Mokry) Mueller in Ballinger where he spent the majority of his life. He was a 1974 graduate of Ballinger High School. He attended business college and worked at Mueller Supply Company. In 1977 he married the love of his life, Tammie Gray, and the couple had two daughters.
Sweetwater never trailed in its season-opening base-ball game Tuesday at San Angelo Lake View, but was unable to put the Chiefs away as darkness forced the teams to settle for a 7-7 tie at the end of seven innings.
Sweetwater jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning Tuesday before Lake View came to bat, and also led 5-2 after a three-run fourth and 7-5 after a two-run sixth, only to see its advantage disappear each time.
February 21st
Several family members and friends of an alleged sexual assault victim held signs and protested at the Nolan County Courthouse on Tuesday morning, Feb. 21, 2012.
One sign read, "My name is Fonda Balthrop. My daughter was sexually abused. There was no justice. Still to this day I sit and watch her suffer. All I wanted was Justice! It hurts me to see the pain in her eyes when she asked, 'Mommy why don't the POLICE HELP ME?'"
Chuck Coley, pictured next to Larry Black (far left), visited the Central Rolling Plains Co-op in Roscoe, Texas on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012. Coley, of Vienna, Georgia, is a producer/ginner that was elected National Cotton Council (NCC) chairman for 2012. He was named during the NCC's annual meeting in Fort Worth on Feb. 10. He will be speaking at the Abilene Farm and Ranch Show today, Feb. 21.
Last Saturday the Sweetwater High School Mustang Band participated in the UIL Region Solo and Ensemble Contest at Abilene High School. Sweetwater earned more solo medals than any other AAA, AA or A school at the competition. Twenty student musicians made 1’s on their solos.
Just after midnight Friday morning, Feb. 18, 2012, an 18-wheeler and four other vehicles were involved in a wreck 25 miles south of Sweetwater on Highway 153. No injuries were reported in the wreck. The driver of the 18-wheeler was hauling beef from Amarillo to the San Antonio area.
