Another overseas scam has recently hit Sweetwater. According to Sweetwater Police Officer Danny Heine, a local business was the victim of a scam involving a counterfeit money order sent to the Philippines by a local resident.
A number of updates were heard from the SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) staff during the group's board of directors meeting held on Monday morning, March 12, 2012 at the Chamber of Commerce.
Executive Director Ken Becker gave two updates regarding the Sweetwater Business Park to the board, one being that updated appraisal numbers need to be acquired for the industrial area. Following some discussion, the board decided to look at similar properties in order to determine the new number for interested clients in the future.
San Antonio – The Junior Market Barrows Show was held on Feb. 20, 2012, at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Grand Champion Dark Crossbred honors were received by Taryn Cunningham of Breckenridge, Texas. Cunningham is currently a member of Stevens County 4-H. Her barrow, “Bubbles” was bred by Ty Lettow. Cunningham would like to attend Texas A&M University one day.
The Seventh Annual Child Abuse Awareness Family FunFair will be held Wednesday, April 4, from 4-6:30 p.m. with the special ceremony “Time of Remembrance” from 6-6:30 p.m.  Once again the Nolan County Coliseum Annex will be the site for this event.Â
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 37 calls for service, issued four citations and made two arrests on March 12, 2012.
The SPD received 8, 911 calls.

• Theft — 1400 block of Hailey.
Arrested by SPD:
• Jerry Meeks, 50 — Public intoxication third or more offense/criminal trespassing.
• Joshua Maxwell, 17 — Injury to elderly/disabled and public intoxication/unauthorized use of a motor vehicle/resisting arrest.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served no civil papers and made five arrests on March 12, 2012.
Mary Alice Rae McQueen, 95, of Levelland, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2012. Mrs. McQueen had been a resident of the Levelland Nursing Home for the past five years. She was born on Jan. 24, 1917, in Talpa, Texas, to George Elliott and Lillie Mae (Maughan) Rae. She married Daniel Jackson McQueen, her husband of 53 years, on Aug.
Angel Caballero of Sweet-water placed 10th in the 275-pound weight class at the Region I, Division 2 Class 3A boys powerlifting meet Friday in Sundown.
Caballero lifted a total of 1,070 pounds. He was one of 14 boys from Sweetwater at the regional meet, but his accomplishment was not included in a story that ran in Monday’s paper.
