Jason D. Williams to perform in Sweetwater

Jason D. Williams will be bringing his energetic style of music to Sweetwater again, Friday, April 13, at the Municipal Auditorium, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Hearing Williams and his great piano playing is entertaining in itself, but seeing him live is a whole different experience. This musician gets physically involved in his music. He rarely just sits at the piano, but is usually all around it. That’s why he’s often compared to music legend Jerry Lee Lewis.

Sanders speaks at Kiwanis Club meeting

The Sweetwater Kiwanis Club met for their weekly meeting on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Bee's DĂ©cor.
The group heard a presentation from the resident director of the Hoyt House, Lindsey Sanders. Sanders spoke on the financial benefits available for veterans at the assisted living facility, along with the weekly activities, monthly community events and volunteer programs offered.

Gas price average increases 11 cents during Spring Break

AAA Texas recently conducted a Spring Break travel poll to identify how gas prices are affecting many Texans’ budgets, spending and spring break plans this year. As a result of current gas price increases, 61 percent of those surveyed said the recent high gasoline prices have affected their household budgets, compared to 51 percent in last spring’s poll.  This week the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is 11 cents more than the average last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.  The current statewide average is $3.70. 

NCF Golf Classic next month

Members of the Nolan County Foundation are announcing their annual NCF Golf Classic scheduled for April 21, 2012 at the Sweetwater Country Club.
According to Jerry Riggs, President of the NCF, this event started in 2006 as a source of additional funding for spring graduates from Blackwell, Highland, Roscoe and Sweetwater high schools who desire to continue their education at any Texas college or university. Since its inception, the NCF has awarded $1,000 each to 133 graduating seniors.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 37 calls for service, issued no citations and made one arrest on March 14, 2012.

The SPD received 18, 911 calls.

• Burglary of a vehicle — 200 block of E. Fourth.
• Theft — 1300 block of Silas.
• Theft — 700 block of NE Georgia.
• Criminal mischief — 100 block of W. 1st.
• Criminal mischief — 1200 block of Ragland.

Arrested by SPD:
• Michael Amos, 49 — Public intoxication.

Bob E. Lively

Bob E. Lively, age 74, died Friday, March 16, 2012, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on Sept. 5, 1937, to Ruth Collins Lively and Houston Lively of Dilley, Texas. A memorial service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012, at Trinity Baptist Church, 1506 Santa Fe Street in Sweetwater, Texas with Rev. Ward Hayes presiding. McCoy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
