Four enter pleas

Four people have recently entered guilty pleas during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings with District Attorney Ann Reed and Assistant District Attorney Barrett Thomas prosecuting and Judge Glen Harrison presiding.
On Monday, March 26, Leo Garcia Peña, with attorney Tom Watson, pled guilty to aggravated assault with a serious bodily injury, a second degree felony. Court documents state that Peña hit a family member with his fist, breaking the victim's jaw on April 13, 2009.

County improvements, speed limit change discussed at meeting

A 30 mile-per-hour limit was approved to be set for Nolan County Road 277 during the county commissioners' meeting on Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Though no residents from the area were in attendance at the meeting, Precinct 3 commissioner Terry Locklar presented the information given to him. The narrow road has seen increased traffic from trucks in oil field work, which has brought a concern to parents in the area.

Doug Sitter State Farm officially welcomed to Sweetwater

Doug Sitter State Farm, one of two State Farm agencies in Sweetwater, has recently opened an office in the community. The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce honored the new office with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, March 23, 2012. The local office is located at 208 Lamar Street.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 138 calls for service, issued nine citations and made eight arrests from March 23-25, 2012.

The SPD received 57, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Theft — 400 block of NE Georgia.
• Theft — 1100 block of E. Broadway.
• Duty upon striking — 300 block of Lamar.
• Theft — 1100 block of Burch.
• Forgery — 1200 block of Marvin.
• Counterfitting — 400 block of NE Georgia.
• Burglary — 900 block of E. 17th.

Arrested by SPD:
• Richard Montemayor, 54 — Public intoxication.

Robert Oscar (Bob) Clark

On Monday, March 26, 2012 God opened the gates of Heaven and Robert Oscar (Bob) Clark went home. He was welcomed by his mother and father and sisters and brother who had been waiting for him a long time. Bob lived in this world 91 years. He was born in Sylvester, Texas on Jan. 30, 1921, to Early Roy and Ethel Mae Clark. He was raised in Knox City and moved to Sweetwater at the age of eight years. He worked for various companies for many years. He was at M'System Grocery Store when it burned. He was at The Village Grocery when he retired in 1986.

Terrance Robert (Terry) Wells, 69, passed away Monday, March 26, 2012 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.

David Wayne Pritchard

David Wayne Pritchard, 47, of Roscoe and formerly of Neosho, MO, died March 22, 2012, at his home, following a short illness. David was born Feb. 13, 1965, in Stella, MO, the son of Jerry E. and Lillys (Williams) Pritchard. He served in the U.S. Navy, Jan. 16, 1986, through Jan. 15, 1990, and currently owned and operated D and A Construction. David married Amy Bradshaw on Oct. 8, 1992, at Miami, OK and she survives.
