Roscoe varsity teams at Hamlin meet.
Sweetwater High School finished in fifth place at the team tennis regional tournament held March 2-3 in Odessa.
Sweetwater began the tournament with an easy 10-1 win over Levelland, but then lost to Andrews, the tournament’s top seed, 10-1 in the next round before coming back for an 11-8 win in the fifth place match against Monahans to end the tournament and the team tennis portion of its season.

Boys Singles
Chris Hernandez beat Chad Lawson 6-2, 6-1.
Stephen Shipp beat Ben Vargas 6-2, 6-3.
Sweetwater won its sec-ond boys golf tournament of the 2012 season on Tuesday by shooting a one-day score of 314 for a two-shot victory at Seminole’s Gaines County Golf Course.
Sweetwater beat out Midland Christian for first-place honors. Lubbock Monterey (336) was a dis-tant third and Odessa Per-mian (337) was fourth.
Sweetwater’s Mason Andrews carded a 74 to win tournament medalist honors over Midland Christian’s Jacob Hibler and Lubbock Cooper’s Matt Hillstrom at Seminole’s tournament.
Sweetwater’s JV baseball team built a 7-0 advantage and held on for a 7-6 road win at Midland Greenwood this past Monday.
Hayden Reeves, Sean Norman and Bray Amos had two hits and Zach Carrasco and J.P. Poe one, with both Reeves and Carrasco getting doubles. Norman had two RBI and Reeves, Amos and Poe one. Amos, Carrasco and Reeves scored twice and Ty Crain once. Poe pitched the first 4 1/3 innings to get the win and Reeves pitched the final 1 2/3 for a save.
A number of Roscoe High School basketball players have received all-District 9-1A, Division I honors.
For Roscoe’s girls, Lynnsi Moses made the first team while Jacinda Morales and Faith Boren were named to the second team. In addi-tion, Sara Kingston and Mirian Solis received all-district honorable mention.
The Roscoe boys had two honorees. The Plowboys’ Jesus Leanos, a sophomore, shared District 9-1A, Division I’s newcomer of the year award with Kelby Bell of Haskell and Keeston Ford received all-district honorable mention.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 40 calls for service, issued one citation and made one arrest on March 8, 2012.
The SPD received 18, 911 calls.

• Jessie McDonald, 25 — Warrant.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had three calls for service, served five civil papers and made no arrests on March 8, 2012.

March 9th
Kayla Chowning was crowned Miss Snake Charmer Thursday night at the Municipal Auditorium. A sophomore at Sweetwater High School, she is the daughter of Wayne and Ann-G Chowning. Pageant coordinators said she is one of the youngest contestants to have won the title.
Another scam has hit the Sweetwater community in the form of donation jars being placed at several local businesses.
