Suzan Hughes-Kennedy (artist, art coach), Lillian Jay Neal (art teacher at Snyder JHS), and Rhonda Wilks (portrait artist, private art lessons) are Aprilâ€™s Artists of the Month at the County-City Library. All three are Prophetic Artists, with the bulk of their work centering on religion.
As one can imagine, there are not a lot of electronics engineers with experience in the radiation detection industry that happen to live in the small town of Sweetwater, waiting to be employed. So when a Mexican engineer who had an undergraduate engineering degree and a graduate business degree from the University of Texas accepted an offer of employment from Ludlum Measurements Inc., Ludlum Vice President Mick Truitt was thrilled.
The City of Roscoe will be having two events downtown on Saturday, April 21.
The 1st Annual Screw Terlinquin Chili Cook-off will take place at The Lumberyard. All proceeds will go toward the Open Door Child Development at the First United Methodist Church in Roscoe, a non-profit organization.
Later in the day, a free concert and street dance will take place in Downtown Roscoe. Entertainment will be provided by Eleven Hundred Springs, and a fireworks show will follow.
Sweetwater High School's Blowout 2012 is just around the corner, and event coordinators want to ensure that parents of graduating seniors are staying informed.
Photos are needed for the senior video that is shown at Blowout. The pictures are typically from grade school but can be from any time from a graduating senior's life. No more than 20 photos per person may be submitted.
All pictures must be turned in to the SHS Library by Friday, April 13, 2012. The photos will be returned to the students at the Blowout event scheduled for Friday, May 25, 2012.
A wreck involving a pickup pulling a 16 foot trailer and a semi truck at the intersection of Highway 84 and Interstate 20 occurred just before dawn Friday morning, April 6, 2012. There were five people in the truck and one in the semi truck.Â The Chevy truck took the exit too fast and went in to the path of the passing semi truck, according to Sweetwater Emergency Service Manager Grant Madden. "Despite the major damage to the truck, there were no serious injuries.Â A passing Mustang hit a piece of debris in the dark and suffered major damage as well," said Madden.
The process of interviewing candidates to replace Craig Slaughter is nearly over, and a press conference is planned next week to name Sweetwater High School's new head football coach and athletic director.
Interviews for the dual position have been conducted since Slaughter announced his resignation last week to accept a similar position at Llano, and Thursday was the last day to accept applications, said superintendent Terry Pittman. As of yesterday afternoon, over 100 applications had been received, Pittman said.
Sweetwater Intermediate School fifth grade teacher LouAnn Cumbie was honored with this past week's Teacher Tribute award, given by KTXS television station.
Cumbie was nominated by one of her fifth grade math students, Bailey Lanto.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 48 calls for service, issued one citations and made one arrest on April 4, 2012.
The SPD received 15, 911 calls.
