The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, at the County-City Library located at 206 Elm Street. The library is owned by Nolan County and the City of Sweetwater and is under the management of Becky Brock.
The Sweetwater Campus of Texas State Technical College West Texas will host a College Preview and Open House on Saturday, April 14. The event, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is open to the public. TSTC West Texas advisors will lead prospective students on a campus tour where they will meet the college's top-notch faculty and have the opportunity to check out first-hand the brand-new automotive alternative fuel trainers current students are using, as well as the wind turbine drive train the Wind Technology students train on.
The Texas Midwest Economic Development Alliance met in Anson on March 7, for their spring meeting. One of the purposes of the Alliance is to bring educational topics and information to Alliance members. Approximately 35 cities were in attendance.
A featured topic of the day was presented by Kirstin Smith and Ken Becker, with Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development (SEED) who explained the Speakers Bureau and Senior Interview Day conducted in Nolan County to prepare the future workforce.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 130 calls for service, issued seven citations and made seven arrests from March 30 - April 1, 2012.
The SPD received 67, 911 calls.

Jack G. Guelker, age 85 of Kingsbury, passed away on March 24, 2012.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Darlene Boaz and Rev. Tom Jones officiating and Masonic rites under the auspices of Kingsbury Masonic Lodge #887 A. F. & A. M.
A reception followed at the Kingsbury United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
Private interment will be held at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Jack was born in Sweetwater, Texas to Walter C. and Daphene Hukele Guelker.
Here are recent results from the Highland and Sweetwater middle school boys at their track meets in Roby and Colorado City, respectively. Highland won its meet with 163 points and Blackwell scored 48 to fin-ish in sixth place. However, individual results for Black-well were not available at press time today.

Roscoe High School will serve as the host for its annual Wes Williams Regional Qualifiers Track Meet on Friday, April 20. The entry fee will be $7 per athlete per event with a $70 maximum per team.

SNYDER – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct the annual multi-county “Lower Rolling Plains Agricultural Conference” from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, at the Scurry Coliseum, 900 E. Coliseum Drive in Snyder. 
“The conference will cover all the important topics facing our area’s agricultural producers in the season ahead,” said Zachary Wilcox, AgriLife Extension agent in Nolan County. 
“The topics will range all the way from cotton economics to dealing with feral hogs and everything in between,” he said.
