The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 127 calls for service, issued 25 citations and made 13 arrests from April 20-22, 2012.
The SPD received 68, 911 calls.

The Sweetwater High School softball teamâs first playoff game in 15 years has been moved up a couple of days.
Its one-game, Class 3A bi-district playoff con-test with Iowa Park will now be played Saturday, April 28 in Graham start-ing at 7:30 p.m. It had originally been set Mon-day, April 30 in Graham.
Sweetwater, which has a 14-9 season record, was the third-place team in District 5-3A with a 4-4 record while Iowa Park was the No. 2 team in District 6-3A.
This is just the third time Sweetwater has made the softball playoffs since it became a UIL sport here.
The Sweetwater High School girls golf team shot 408-409 for an 817 total to place fourth at the recent Region I-3A tournament in San Angelo. Members of the team were, from left, Molly Fincher, Alex Gomez, Haylee Stewart, Elise Lawrence, Amy Witt and Rachel Hunt.

Campers, trailers, tents and barbecue pits could be seen all around the camp grounds at Lake Sweetwater this past weekend, April 20-22, 2012, for the 11th Annual Jaycee Roosters Motorcycle Rally and Cook-Off.
Cooks entered in several different categories including brisket, pork spare ribs, chicken and beans.

The Abilene Campus of Texas State Technical College West Texas will host a College Preview and Open House on Tuesday, April 24. The event, held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., is open to the public. TSTC West Texas advisors will lead participants on a campus tour where they will meet top-notch faculty and have the opportunity to check out first-hand the wind turbine mobile trainer the Wind Technology students train on. "Here at TSTC West Texas, we are proud to provide our students with more hands-on training than any other college in the area," said event coordinators.
On Wednesday, middle school bands from across West Texas participated in UIL Concert and Sight Reading Competition. The Sweetwater Middle School Band earned a first division plaque on their prepared music event, which was performed at Abilene Cooper High School.
âI was really pleased with how they did,â commented SMS band director Ross Grant. âThe kids really rose to the challenge. One of our pieces, âAdrenaline Engines,â was also performed by 5A Abilene High Schoolâs second band. It is actually a high school piece. Our students really pulled it off.â
Sedan â Margaret Irene Conner, 64, of Sedan, Kansas formerly of Sweetwater, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012 at her home in Sedan.
She was born March 11, 1948, in Shidler, Okla. to Henry Coleman Smith and Billie Jean (Burke) Smith. She grew up in the Shidler area before moving to Sweetwater, Texas where she graduated from high school in 1966. After high school she married Gene Shaffer and they later divorced in 1980.
After escaping a bases-loaded jam in the top of the sixth and scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning, the chances of Sweetwaterâs baseball team getting into the Class 3A playoffs were looking good here Friday night.
But a 3-2 lead evaporated when visiting Big Spring came up with three runs in the top of the seventh, and the Steers held on for a 5-3 win at Newman Park to bring a heartbreaking end to the Mustangsâ season.

The USDA Farm Service Agency is working harder than ever to assist new farmers and ranchers to succeed. Acting Texas FSA Executive Director James B. Douglass recently unveiled a new Land Contract Guarantee Program and several other tools designed to help beginning farmers and ranchers build the foundation for a successful career in agriculture.
SWEETWATER â The Texas AgriLife Extension Service office in Nolan County will host a training session beginning at 9 a.m. followed by testing at 1 p.m. on April 25th for persons seeking a Texas Department of Agriculture private applicator license.
The training will be conducted in the Texas State Technical College, Temple Dickson Building, Room 140.Â
âThis is only for persons who donât have a valid license and not for those needing continuing education units,â said Zachary Wilcox, AgriLife Extension agent in Nolan County.
