Greetings, from the Avondale Baptist Church family! We would like to invite you to come and visit us if you are looking for a loving church family. We welcome you to come and worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with us. We are located at 1405 Hoyt Street.
Next Sunday, May 27, we will have Sunday School High Attendance Day. We are working and praying for 75 in Sunday school that day. That evening at 6 p.m. Gary Gibson will be in concert at Avondale Baptist Church.  Come and be with us for both services May 27, and you will receive a blessing.

Raspberry Cream Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

Yield: 24 cupcakes
Serving size: 1 cupcake with frosting
Cupcakes
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups granulated sugar
4 eggs
1 cup milk
3/4 cup canola oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups raspberries, fresh or frozen
Cream Cheese Frosting
2 packages of cream cheese (8 ounces) at room temperature
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line muffin tin with 24 cupcake liners.

City pool to open Memorial Day weekend

Summer's on the horizon, and the City of Sweetwater will be opening the Municipal Pool for a preview before the swimsuit season begins.
From Saturday, May 26 to Monday, May 28, the pool will be open for Memorial Day weekend. Larry Hopple will return as the pool's manager this year.
The first official day of operation will be on Friday, June 1 and will have regular hours throughout the summer. The final business day for the city pool will be on Friday, August 24.

Future Sweetwater class graduates

The Future Sweetwater class of 2012, consisting of 13 Sweetwater High School sophomores, graduated on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Texas State Technical College.
Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President Jacque McCoy welcomed everyone to the event and Kirby Andrews led the invocation.

Several pets available for adoption

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has several pets available for adoption.
Available for adoption are a pair of mixed breed puppies, one white and one brown, a female Calico and her kitten, a black and white male mixed breed puppy and a black and white female cat with her five kittens.
Sweetwater’s animal control officer, Don Kite would like to remind the public not to abandon animals at the shelter. The female cat with her five kittens were left at the door of the shelter in a cardboard box. If the mother had not been with the kittens, they would have been put down.

SEED begins budget process

The SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) Board of Directors approved a proposal by Oncor for street lighting in the Business Park during their meeting on Monday morning, May 14, 2012 at the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce building.
Two proposals were presented to the board, with both noted as being well priced. By working with Oncor, SEED will have the benefit of the city's low rates for lights.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 28 calls for service, issued four citations and made one arrest on May 15, 2012.

The SPD received 19, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Theft — 9000 block of S. I-20.
• Family violence assault — 1600 block of Grand.
• Criminal mischief — 800 block of E. 14th.
• Harassment — 1100 block of Silas.

Arrested by SPD:
• Gina Torres, 40 — County indictment.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 13 calls for service, served six civil papers and made one arrest on May 15, 2012.

Tressie Faye Young Parsons, 85, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in Arlington, TX.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Highland Heights United Methodist Church, 1801 Lamar Street in Sweetwater, TX, with the Rev. Brian Brownlow officiating, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2012 at McCoy Funeral Home.
