A "Lunch and Learn Seminar" highlighting osteoporosis was held at noon on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mark Seibel leading the discussion and answering questions of those in attendance.
Osteoporosis is a silent disease which increases in incidence as the population ages. The cost of treatment is increased and while significant long term functional consequences can occur, mortality rates can be increased as well.
TSTC West Texas announced that Kyle Smith will join the team as Vice President of Student Learning on June 18. Smith succeeds William W. Thompson whom moved to the TSTC Systems office in December.Â
Smith is no stranger to TSTC West Texas having served as counselor for three years. Most recently, Smith served as the Dean of Instruction and Chief Academic Officer for Western Texas College. Prior to this post, he served WTC as Assistant Professor of Political Science and Psychology, Associate Dean of Instruction and Dean of Instruction.Â
Thirty Nolan County high school and home schooled spring graduates were honored by the Nolan County Foundation with $1,000 scholarships on Wednesday, May 16, 2012.
Nolan County Foundation (NCF) president, Jerry Riggs addressed the students and their parents at a reception at the Sweetwater Country Club.Â NCF has awarded a total of 163 scholarships with proceeds from an annual golf scramble held each spring.Â

--Blackwell High School â€” Kelsey Holland (Angelo State University) and Brittany Frizzell (TSTC West Texas);
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 43 calls for service, issued five citations and made three arrests on May 22, 2012.
The SPD received 13, 911 calls.

Dylan Bennett of Sweetwater has received all-district honorable mention in baseball. His honor was inadvertently left out of a story about Sweetwaterâ€™s all-district players that ran in Tuesdayâ€™s paper. Bennett was Sweetwaterâ€™s starting shortstop as a sophomore in his first year on varsity. He was one of five players to earn honorable mention along with Gabe Medellin, Shawn Campbell, Stephen May and Cole Maxwell. Sean Morrow, Greg Aiken, Willie Norman and James Clift were first team all-district picks for Sweetwater.
A Mustang Baseball Camp will be held June 11-14 at the high school baseball field next to Newman Park.
The first session for stu-dents entering grades 1-5 will be from 9-10:15 a.m. each day while the second session for students enter-ing grades 6-9 will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Persons will need to reg-ister at least 15 minutes before each session begins on Monday, June 11. The cost of the camp is $40, which includes a T-shirt.
This yearâ€™s camp will em-phasize working on funda-mentals, hitting, defense and pitching and will be led by the Sweetwater High School baseball coaches.
A Mustang Tennis Camp will be held June 12-14 at the Sweetwater High School tennis courts for students completing grades 2-6.
Camp hours are 8-11 a.m. each day. Students need to bring their own tennis racquet and water bottle and are strongly encouraged to wear sun screen. Cost of the camp is $25. Pre-registration is greatly appreciated.
Registration forms should be turned in to the middle school or high school office.
