The 4th Annual df Ranch Triathlon will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Lake Sweetwater public boat ramp, located at 326 FM 2035. The event will start at 7:30 a.m. and will be the USA Triathlon Texas State Sprint Championships.
The triathlon will be a timed race that includes a 500-meter swim in the lake, 14 mile bike on a rolling hills course on FM 2035 and a 3.1-mile run on County Road 252.
Another possible phone scam has made its way to Sweetwater and the surrounding area, but this time local veterans are being targeted.
Mrs. Donald Goodrich from Sweetwater contacted the local authorities and shared the situation about her husband getting a call from a woman who told him that his friend in Abilene was going to court and needed money. She said when the call came through, it appeared as a restricted number.
According to Colorado City authorities, Brittany Hill, her daughter, Khloe Wheeler and her boyfriend, Rosendo Gonzalez have all been located and picked up. They are safe and in good health.
Information was obtained through a source that Hill and Gonzales had stolen a credit card. The card was traced to a location in Galveston, Texas.
Using cell phone "pings" it was learned that the three were traveling northbound on Interstate 45 toward Houston.
The cell phone pings were monitored until investigators were able to narrow down the location of Hill, Wheeler and Gonzalez.
Changes and celebrations were prevalent during the SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Board of Trustees meeting held on Monday night, May 21, 2012 at "The Hub" at Sweetwater High School (SHS).
SISD Superintendent Terry Pittman presented a plaque and expressed his appreciation to the two outgoing board members, Gail Lawrence and Jeanie McPherson--who served on the board for the past ten and six years, respectively. A reception was held prior to the meeting for family, friends and community members to show their appreciation and offer well-wishes to the ladies.
Sweetwater First United Methodist Church welcomes Stephen Gehring, the new youth minister at First United Methodist Church, and his wife, JulieAnn. Stephen, originally from College Station, and JulieAnn, of Graham, moved to Sweetwater in late April. The couple both graduated from Southwestern University, where they first met. JulieAnn majored in History and Education while Stephen studied Communication and Religion. The Gehrings moved to Colorado shortly after getting married in the spring of last year, where they had been living prior to Sweetwater.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued no citations and made one arrest on May 24, 2012.
The SPD received 13, 911 calls.

Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development (SEED) recently hosted a manufacturing group. This group meets quarterly to discuss similar issues from HR to purchasing to safety and more. They also tour different manufacturing locations in Nolan County. They are shown touring TST, Inc. which recycles aluminum through a smelting process. This Saturday, May 26, 2012, 21 WASP from all over the United States will beÂ returning toÂ Avenger Field in Sweetwater for Homecoming 2012.Â Some will arrive by private planes between 9-10 a.m., some will arrive by car and nine will have spent Friday night in Sweetwater.Â The WASP will be accompanied by 21 U.S.Air Force women pilots all weekend.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Young Eagles Program will offer free flightsÂ to children ages 8-17 years old.
The annual WASP Homecoming 2012 will begin with an honor parade from Nolan County Plaza at 9 a.m. to the museum.
