Recipe of the Week: Grilled potatoes make for a crowd pleaser

Grilled Potato Kabobs
with Lemon Herb Drizzle
Prep Time: 20 minutes | Grill Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 6
Lemon-Herb Drizzle
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (such as basil,
rosemary, marjoram and sage)
1/2 teaspoon sea salt, or to taste
Juice of 1 fresh lemon
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Potato Kabobs
1 pound russet potatoes, scrubbed
1 (12 ounce) package precooked chicken sausage,
sliced 1/4-inch-thick on the diagonal
2 ears fresh corn, cut into 1-inch pieces

Roscoe hosting Cinco events

Roscoe will host two Cinco de Mayo events this weekend.
Roscoe Collegiate High School will be hosting its annual Cinco de Mayo celebration and scholarship dinner on Friday, May 4, at the high school. There will be a bounce house, face painting, mini Mercado, paletas, music, loterĂ­a (Spanish bingo), cakewalk and other games for all ages. Students will be presenting throughout the dinner as well.

Highland OAP to perform tonight

On Thursday, May 3, 2012, Highland One-Act Play will present sf “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller, published by the Dramatists Play Service, to the public. The show will begin at 7 p.m. in the Highland Activity Center. Admission will be $3 for adults and $1 for students.
There will also be a drawing for a ladies Brighton watch that was graciously donated by Vickie’s Gifts in Roscoe. Chances are $2 each. 

Survivor lunch this Friday

Calling all cancer survivors and caregivers! The Relay For Life of Nolan/Scurry Counties will host the annual Survivor and Caregiver Dinner at 6 p.m. this Friday, May 4, at the First United Methodist Church.
The dinner is free to all cancer survivors and their caregivers. For more information or to RSVP, call Linda Everhart at 236-6847.

Frieda officially sworn in

Sweetwater’s new Chief of Police, Brian Frieda, was officially sworn in to office on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, in the city commission room at City Hall by Sweetwater Mayor Greg Wortham. Many members of the community and the new chief’s family were in attendance at the ceremony.
Chief Frieda will replace Chief of Police Jim Kelley, who retired on Monday, April 30, 2012, after 34 years of service to the Sweetwater Police Department and 28 years as the chief.
City Manager Eddie Brown said that the city is happy to have Chief Frieda on board.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 55 calls for service, issued eight citations and made two arrests on May 1, 2012.

The SPD received 22, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Sexual assault — Sweetwater.
• Theft — Vista Court.
• Assault — 400 block of NE Georgia.
• Assault — 200 block of SE Georgia.
• Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon — 200 block of W. Avenue D.

Arrested by SPD:
• Ronald Bell, 42 — Public intoxication.
• Gabriel Villa, 38 — Unlawful restraint.
