Pack a perfect picnic

Bean Salad Stuffed Shells are a simple, flavorful, portable appetizer. Jumbo shells filled with a can of 3 or 4 bean salad, herbs and cheese make great
finger food.
Baby Beet and Farro Salad is an easy pack-and-go side. Whole pickled baby beets — just right for one bite — are the star of this whole grain salad, tossed with Dijon mustard dressing.

Local teams get little respect from TF

Once again, all four Nolan County high school teams have gotten the Rodney Dangerfield treatment in the latest edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine, which arrived in stores late last week.
None of the four is predicted to make the playoffs out of their new districts, and one of them is picked to finish dead last.

Four SW all-star teams will compete in district tournaments this week

June 23, 2012

Sweetwater will have four Little League all-star teams competing this week in District 5 tournaments.
Pool games start Wednesday at each tournament and continue through Tuesday, July 3 for all-star teams in the 9-10, 10-11 and 11-12 year-old tournaments. The pool play for the Junior League (13-14) tournament will conclude this Saturday.

Mary Sue Lambert Firth, age 79, of Lubbock, Texas, (Former resident of Sweetwater, Texas) passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2012 in Lubbock, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2012, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Clifton officiating. Burial will follow at Nolan Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Sue was born on July 16, 1932 in Nolan County, Texas to Raymond S. (Ted) and Mattie (Price) Lambert. She was a homemaker and she also worked for SNAP for many years before retiring.

JavaJax to host CD release event tomorrow

June 22, 2012

A live music performance, featuring musician Brian McRae, will be held at JavaJax in downtown Sweetwater on Saturday evening, June 23.
McRae has recently recorded a new CD entitled “Painted World” which will be available for purchase on the night of show. Local residents Suzi and Rex Scaggs are the executive producers of the new album, which includes a song titled Sweet Water.

Blackwell to host 4th of July celebration

The Blackwell Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) will be holding their annual 4th of July celebration, parade and barbecue on Saturday, June 30, 2012. A parade will kick off the event at 5 p.m. on Main Street in Blackwell.
At 5:30 p.m., the Blackwell VFD will be selling barbecue brisket and sausage plates with all the trimmings at their station located on Main Street. Plates are $10 for adults and $5 for children, with all proceeds benefitting the Blackwell VFD.

Ribbon cutting at RPMH

Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital hosted a special event on Thursday, June 21, 2012, with a ribbon cutting and groundbreaking on two projects.
As part of a larger renovation project that began late last year, RPMH celebrated — with members of the community — the completion of updates to its medical/surgical wing with a ribbon cutting ceremony. More than 40 patient rooms were enhanced during the renovations with various updates, including six existing rooms modified to comply with Disability Act (ADA) standards.

Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital hosted a special event on Thursday, June 21, 2012, with a ribbon cutting and groundbreaking on two projects.
The hospital had a ground breaking ceremony for a new medical office building, which is slated for completion this December. Planned for nearly a year, the new facility will provide the hospital with additional much-needed space for physician offices.
